Which air hose is better?

Is there a difference between which air hose is better on the two below types? I am by no means a heavy compressor user, sometimes I'll run my impact or wrench but thats about it.

Type 1; PVC and Rubber Construction type, 3/8"

Type 2; Unsure of the construction but its the one that's quite flexible, think I've seen something similar at Costco. 3/8".

Both are 50', 1/4' end fittings.

If its flexible like Flexzilla then it will sit nicer on the floor and won't be a pain in the *** when its cold. The PVC and rubber hoses are reliable and have been the same way for decades for that reason.

Depends on the pvc formulation

Some of them get rather stiff in the cold

Flexeel and others some to have solved that issue

I am not a fan of the extremely soft pvc formulations as they are prone to damage because they are so soft

My preference is synthetic rubber inner tube and outer cover

PVC hoses are next to useless in cold weather. They will crack too.

Rubber is the way to go. I hear good things about the Diablo from HF.

So the flexible hose Im referring to looks quite similar to this only yellow..

And then the other Rubber & PVC one is this one;

Reason I ask is, the PVC & Rubber is still brand new packaging. Cleaning up the shop, whichever is better I'll keep the other is going on local classifieds..

I think whether they are good depends on how you use them and where. If you rarely unroll and roll them, then the ease of doing that is less important than if you do it daily. Some rubber ones are easy, some always a real bother, some get too hard when cold. All the regular PVC see harder to roll. Probably the best I have is a fairly soft rubber hose that was made for either air or paint. Always easy to handle.

As to wearing out, I try to be careful and as a hobbyist I don't see much difference.

I would go to a tire place where they are rough and see what they use, if I wanted a new hose.

I've had 150psi in my hybrid air hose around the clock for 2 years so far, no problems. Run it over with cars and jacks, too

Comparing materials to each other is very difficult because there are so many different formulations and their performance vary widely based on the specific formulation.

For example, rubber hoses tend to be the heaviest, hence why PVC and hybrid hoses have been created.

Exception- BluBird hoses are completely rubber, but are the lightest hose on the market.

PVC tends to be stiff, but there are plenty of examples of flexible (even in cold weather) PVC hoses.

So instead of looking at specific materials, start looking at specific brands that offer good hoses.

Goodyear has rubber and hybrid hoses (Tekton also sells these under their name).

Flexzilla is also a great company with a variety of different hoses.

BluBird also makes some great rubber hoses that have the best performance in the cold of any hose I've seen. They are rated to be highly flexible at much colder temps than any other hose. I live in one of the coldest places in the USA and have a BluBird hose (the blue one for cold temp) that has been fantastic. I also have a BluBird Yellow oil shield hose that, while not as flexible as the blue lightweight hose, is still great and has better oil resistance. K-Tool also carries some BluBird hoses

Those are the companies I would look at

Goodyear is now just a licensing name you can purchase for your product overseas and no longer means anything after being sold off.

Agreed on BlueBird, though.

Goodyear sold their hose products to Continental Rubber Products, now branded as Contitech. Pretty sure the Goodyear name is no longer used for hose products. I could be wrong

Goodyear is no longer a name used on USA made rubber hoses. Its naming rights however were sold to a trading company and manufacturer in China who they themselves now make a "Goodyear" brand line of hoses and reels but also sells hoses and/or licensing rights to other manufacturers overseas.

I just bought several good year hoses a few months ago. New stock, US made, yellow in color, and other than a really odd eight pointed end that appears to be designed to fit two different wrench sizes, they are every bit as good as the ones I have had for thirty years.

OP . . . . top tier of air hoses are . . . . Rubber (ie Goodyear . . but "heavy"), quality hybrid like Flexilla or BlueBird that are lighter, but still stay flexible.

I'll Never, EVER, Never own a PVC hose !! ;)

My personal favorites are red rubber that I got at garage sale, then yellow Bluebird (oil resistant) that I got as test.

That I have not seen evidence of and would like to see a link?

I mean, you can link to as many press releases as you like. I'm not reading this online or anything - I'm over there often purchasing for industrial accounts.
I get to stand there and see it.
If you're not convinced, I can send you Ms. Hu's business card from Intradin which manufactures previously under Lubeworks and now includes Goodyear.

Are you saying that the Goodyear Hoses that say Made in USA are bogus fakes?
