Which Assortment of Oscillating MultiTool Attachments / Blades?

I saw some discussion of brands recently and Bosch was thought highly of. But couldn’t find a thread on which assortment of blades to get.

First time OMT owner and I only have a single use in mind right now, drywall repair, but I’m sure this thing will become very useful over time.

I’m thinking of just buying one of every blade that Bosch makes, and perhaps 3 or more of the blades most common to be disposable wear items like a bimetallic blade for cutting nails/metal.

Doubt I’d wear though most of the blades as a casual home gamer but anytime I’m cutting metal, it seems like those blades will need replacing.

My reason for thinking to buy one of every blade style is that it’s meant to be a multi tool, where I may not have the purpose in mind but fall back to “oh I can use my OMT on this” and I don’t want to have to make a trip to Home Depot or Amazon prime the attachment.

But, perhaps there’s overlap in some of the blades and I really don’t need ALL of them?

Also curious what kind of speciality blades exist from other brands I should get. I saw harbor freight makes a electrical outlet box cutter, shaped exactly like one in a rectangle, and press it into drywall for a perfect cut. Seems amazing even if I only use it a few times. Anything else interesting like this?

And please tell me which blades I should own multiples of because I’m likely to wear them out. I won’t buy a 12 pack at the start but maybe I’ll buy 3 and see what I use and go from there. Unless I might burn out 3 of the same blade on a home project within 2 days Amazon prime delivery.

IMO the better blades are the more expensive ones. Not necessarily the M O S T expensive.
And there are different mounting systems-Starlock, Starlock Plus, can’t remember all the names.

I just buy the no name bimetal and when I can find them, carbide. I have yet to wear out a carbide blade. Plain steel is only good for using as a scraper after the teeth are gone.

I've got the Dremel brand tool. And I usually buy the Dremel brand 'bits'.

You will want to get a good assortment of the wood cutting blades. Both the straight and the semi-circle. This tool has saved my bacon a number of times.

High on the list also is a tile cutting blade. Great for cutting grout out, or cutting tile.

Yep, sure does...EZARC i think was the cheap one that did really good in tests.. never heard of them but it was on YouTube project farm tests on another thread I just looked at yesterday.

I’m having trouble figuring out if the Bosch star lock is compatible with my new m12 fuel. Some places say no, some say yes.

Interesting, may I ask who did these ratings? In old threads I dug up, Bosch was listed as most recommended.

I’ve really only used mine for wood so not as extreme so cheap blades work fine for me. Hell I’ve been using harbor freight ones.

Thanks for sharing, interesting test!

Gives some ideas for bimetallic blades for sure, but how about the other types of blades that exist? I’m not sure which assortment to go for.

I've had pretty good luck with the Integra Platinum multitool blades. They are not as readily available on Amazon as they used to be but there are plenty of choices on eBay.

I just purchased a 18v.Makita multi tool.It came with a wood blade.I went to the wall and picked up a nail embedded coated upgraded blade in a one pack,my thought is if I like it,I'll get more.If not,I haven't wasted a lot of money.Depending on what you plan on doing, sometimes these bonus packs have some blades you might use.I also scouted my neighborhood hardware store to see their inventory in case I started a project.familiarity with the tool and blade selection will really make the project go well.

I have the same Makita 18v oscillating tool. I have started to do small remodel projects for other people. I go through a decent number of blades. The Rockwell brand multipack from Lowe’s is garbage. I bought a small Dewalt screwdriver bit set From HD that had 4 “bonus” blades. It was 10 bucks. Milwaukee had a 30 pack for $30 bucks at HD a couple weeks ago. Some of the 30 pack was a sander attachment and sheets of sand paper. Probably 20 blades though, all in a carrying bag that is useful.

I’m up for paying more for a hero blade, but I haven’t found them yet. I’m stocking up on cheaper brands, hoping I find a diamond in the rough. Fein tool are soooper expensive....
