Just bought a pair of batteries and they didn't come with a carrying handle, no place for one either. Not much space around the battery when its in place to get your hand on it either. I can get this lifting tool for $9. Anything better? Not crazy about just two rubber pads squeezing onto a 40 pound battery to hold it secure.

to be honest... i haven't run into anything better and even then they aren't that great... there are other designs but the ones i've used all tend to work about as well/bad

I use one of these Lisle battery carriers. You have to make sure it's square and somewhere in the middle using one of these. I dropped a battery before cause I was careless.

I have one, I believe there's no name on it, but it's basically 2 steel jaws and the handle is a rubber strap. Another mechanic at the shop I worked at thought it was junk. He tried to get a battery to come off of if it and couldn't. I wish I could upload pictures.

I have one of these. been using it for years. besides having to glue the rubber pads back on a couple of times it has worked well. don't remember the cost , got it from a cornwell truck about 12 years ago.

I worked at an auto parts store in college and we had a tool like the one in the OP. It wasn't that exact one; it was a quality piece. It carried dozens of batteries a week, never an issue.

Not sure why this is real concern, how often will you be taking them in and out?

To be honest, there's really not that much choice that I know of in the way of battery tools. They work ok, I've really used one, I use find it easier to just do it the old fashion way.

Some cars the batteries are basically in a hole and without the tool it's about impossible to remove. I've used mine a time or two.
