Block grinder for my son, that is.

A little background.
At 33 he's very accomplished in his field. We're very proud of course, but when he asked me for a grinder (for sharpening his mower blade) and a vise I had to asked who he was and what he'd done with my son!

You see, his field is vision and brain research, not really a hands-on tool kind of guy.

Any way, some know giving him a grinder (CM Block grinder ) isn't a problem for me.

Choosing which Block grinder is the issue.

So, please let me know which of the 5 you would choose and why, or an alternative.

If you think he won't use it that much I'd go with the 1/2 hp. If you thought he would be a more serious user, I'd go with the 3/4 hp.

Looks like im the first to actually click on your poll! Lol. 1/2 hp gets my vote. Good condition, not too small or too much hp, bet he'll appreciate the condition, knowing it came from you too.

My vote is #2 since it already has the oversized tool rest, which would help with his primary need of blade sharpening.

Well, the votes are in and it looks like the internet thinks #3) 0.50 HP 397.19440, is the choice for a new user sharpening his mower blade, and I agree.

My goto is a 3/4 HP Block m-397.19350, but I'd like him to get some experience with a less flesh-hungry grinder first. :shocking:

This 1/2 HP Block was the nicest in my modest inventory. Just a good dusting and spritzing with Simple Green, and all she needed was a set of sealed bearings.

I had a new power cord set aside, but it really didn't need it. A cleaning and tightening of the electrical connectors and power switch was all it needed to get her purring like a big cat.

The OEM plastic eye shields were exchanged for the larger metal framed eye shields.

It sits on a very clean CM stand that the original owner installed 4 leveling feet with rubber booties.

Here's a picture of it in Minneapolis, ready and waiting.

Sorry for the delay in posting and thanks for your interest!
