I can buy this guy locally for $3188 out the door or online for $2900

Or do I spend another $300 (they charge sales tax) for this one? It has the oversized, lower rpm pump.

I like the Champion stuff. I want an after cooler. Quieter the better..

For grins I was considering this Eaton, lots more CFM, no aftercooler, not a US pump..

For what it's worth, I ordered my Champion compressor from TP Tools.

Easy as pie. They took my info over the phone and about 2 weeks later I got a phone call from the freight company. "Do you want to come pick it up at our terminal or do you want us to bring it out to you ?". I just drove down there and they fork lifted it into my truck.

I've placed three big dollar orders with TP Tools over the years. Each time I dealt with Carmine on the phone. He took care of me perfectly each time.

I'd shoot for the second one. 990 rpm's isn't exactly low rpm's in my book.

Forget the Eaton. All I have left of my Eaton purchased in 09' is the tank. Sold the Electric motor/controller, dropped the pump off at the scrap yard. The third pump that is. It's the big 3cylinder pump with a 10hp motor. Junk,Junk,Junk!

Only Quincy QR's for this guy.

I looked at the big 7.5HP from Pacific Air and couldn't find any info on it from anywhere else. Looks like a great machine. I do know that Champion uses some Schulz pumps from Brazil, but this said Made in the USA. Just can't find supporting info.

It's been posted by other GJ members to seek out a low rpm compressor if you expect it to last 20+ years. Just bought a couple of Champion VR5-8 compressors and so far, so good. The hardest part was finding someone who had them in stock, but factory delivery from Princeton, IL is only a week or so. I like the fact they have no head gasket and they and the components are made in USA. On our previous POS compressor, the head gasket would seep oil after a few years and the 3450 RPM motor tended to fry when we had Com Ed power problems.

For what it's worth, my Champion is like the one he linked except horizontal tank configuration. It's about 1.5 years old. This is right on the side of the compressor pump.

Would you mind posting a photo or two of your compressor? Where did you buy it? Model number?

Sure. Give me a few minutes to upload them to my hosting site.

In post number two of this thread I gave details about where I got it. Highly recommend TP Tools.

It's an 80 gallon horizontal tank model with magnetic starter. I got a horizontal model rather than the more typical vertical configuration so it would fit in a particular spot in my shop.

My application is running a one man powdercoating shop. Lots and lots, and lots of blasting with pressure pot and two blast cabinets. It more than keeps up. And this is the 5hp model, which is obviously less than the 7.5hp you're looking at.

That's a nice compressor! I picked my Champion up last year in Vancouver, was a couple hundred cheaper, but only the 5hp/80gal. model without a mag starter and cooler.
I'll be picking up a cooler and automatic drain for it this year sometime. I assembled and wired my own mag starter and shutoff for it.
I liked the fact that it has a Baldor motor and from what i understand its an American made pump, Gardner-Denver i believe.
Let us know which one you get.

Antique- When you have a moment can you measure how long and how tall your tank is? I picked up an older Champion compressor a few months back and am not sure if its a 60 or 80 gallon tank, haha and wasn't able to find the specs on the tag.

I'm sure with some math I could figure that out pretty easily but who needs that in our lives...

Look like real nice compressors and @ $1600 'You ****'

Surprised at the short warranty.

Buy a good old Canadian Made HDi and you get 7 year warranty.

So how has this machine worked out for you? I just found it a couple of nights ago on Ebay, was planning on getting an Eaton but now rethinking that.

It's Awesome! Has plenty of air to keep up with my sandblast cabinet, Runs fairly quiet and recovers quickly. I definitely recommend it
