The steel roofing i'm after is available in a number of different coatings and i'm unsure which to get.
Heres the list from the manufacturer.

I'm still waiting for a quote back from them for each coating type but i assume the basic polyester coating will be the cheapest and just like a coat of paint, with the 200 micron PVC being the top end coating.

Even the polyester coating is said to be good for 15 -20 years which is more than enough for me so is it really worth paying more for a better coating?

Are you in a salt water area?
Salty fog or dew may play a big part in this.
Check with your neighbors.

I'm about 1 mile from the sea uphill.

The garages round here generally have clay tile or slate roofs. Next doors garage is just painted and still looks good 10 years later.

why worry

Go with the best coating you can since you are so close to the coast. Being a sheet metal worker I have seen what happens with the lessor coatings edges become very cancerous.

Good luck!

60% more expensive for top of the line, but are talking about 60% more than 2000 or 20,000(pounds i assume?).

Garage is being done completely on a teeny tiny budget of under £1000 ($1600). Roofing comes in at about a 1/4 of that so about $400. 60% works out at about $230 more.

Not a lot by any stretch of the imagination but i can't really justify to SWMBO that paying out 60% more for something that looks the same but is gonna only get me another 5 years of use.:(

If youre talking $400 it must not be a large area, you could just get the cheaper one and then paint it yourself with a high quality paint after your budget recovers.
