I am currently working on my car in a storage unit. Unfortunately, I have extremely limited power on tap. I have been running my Mig machine and my 26 gallon compressor off of a generator. Could I run a larger (60 gallon or so) compressor on a generator? My generator does have a 220 outlet... is that all I need???

Well, um... it'll depend a lot on the generator in question. Lots of generators have 220 outlets.

We talking 5kw, 7kw, what? Look at nameplate amps on the compressor motor and make sure it's under the amp rating on the 220V outlet, I've seen both 20 and 30 amp outlets. A genuine 5hp motor will be at or above the ****** edge of a 20A breaker at full load, and might pop it at startup too. Multiply the amps by 220 for wattage, though if it's under the breaker limit, you should be safe under the generator's limit too.

The generator is a 8450/6750 with Honda GX390 13hp engine. I guess I need to look and see what breaker it has for the 220 outlet. Is this even a possibility... or do I need to try finding a large gas powered compressor?
Thank You
