I need a small basic compressor. Between these two models which one would you pick? They are both on sale right now for $99

Husky - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-8-...30B/202564847?keyword=603404#customer_reviews

Kobalt - http://www.lowes.com/pd_470442-3044...=?Ntt=air+compressors&facetInfo=#BVRRWidgetID

I'd spend a few more dollars and find something with an oil bath.
The oil-free compressors are notoriously loud.
Sorry I did not keep it to just answering your question.

Go for the oil lube. I believe the husky is a campbell hausfield unit and the kobalt is a coleman. They are both pretty much the same unit otherwise. Both are going to be equally loud.

I saw they have a <strike>Husky</strike> Porter-Cable 6 gallon pancake compressor on sale for $99 too. I may pick one of those up for use with nailers and etc. It'd cost me about that much just to run the wire and etc to get my spare shop compressor in the house I'm working on.

I have that same Husky and it works great. I've use it inside the house for remodel projects and spraying texture.

As for the Husky Porter-Cable, I have burned up 3 of them. They use a brush motor with to small of a contact area for the brushes and burn up the armature. Buy the Stanley-Bostitch pancake if going that route. They have induction motors, I have not had a bad one in 4 years of use and they get used everyday.

Yeah I backed away from that ledge, the thing has horrible reviews due to a failing regulator that's built into the panel. So it'd fail right when I need it most as they always do and I'd have to rig a normal regulator on it. Back to Plan A, moving the spare shop unit into the house.
