I have both the Makita 18 volt set with 1.5 ah batteries and the smaller Makita10.8 volt set. Really like both. The small set is real handy for smaller projects where access is tight, and the tools fit well in a bag on a tool belt, or even a coat pocket. Power is great too. I use the impact drivers for deck screws and tend to break far less of the crappy screws you get nowadays than when using a drill motor. I do wish I had the 3ah 18v system though because the tool line a lot moe extensive. Does anyone know if you can use the 1.5ah batteries in the 3ah tools?

I have both and I wouldn't. I have put my 3ah battery on my 1.5ah drill...I was in a pinch...nothing happened but I'm not planning on doing it again. The main reason I wouldn't do it is the battery life is so short with 1.5ah...If I put it on my my BTD 144 the battery would drain in no time. I love my White and Black drill/mpact driver set but the batteries are just a little to small when you start to really use them hard. Search the net, you can find some deals out there...I got my BTD 144 for $389 and at Amazon they want $441.

So, do you all recommend using 1/4" impact sockets with these impact drivers versus your chrome sockets? I think i know the answer but other opinions would help.

ive used mine exclusively with craftsman 3/8 chrome socket set + adapter, never had a issue. i dont use it everyday with sockets tho, only when driving lags, or tighten up bolts. but ive beat on it hard, broke plenty of heads off bolts.
