Finally....Got motivated and starting to clear out the shop....I have a good (bad?) habit of never turning down a good deal... so....

I have two drill presses, a Craftsman made in 1963 that is in really excellent condition, Floor Stand, 150 model...and an ATLAS Bench Press probably about the same vintage again in excellent shape..

I am leaning toward putting the ATLAS on a rolling workbench and selling the Craftsman....

I only use a DP occasionally but it is VERY handy when needed...any opinions on which to keep and which to sell...

This is harder than deciding which of the Jones sisters I wanted to date...wonder if they are still in good shape...

Thanks for any input... Mike B

If it was a choice between some quality vintage DP's & some cheap imports like Grizzly, HF, & other Asian products, I would say keep the vintage one, but in this case keep them both, nice to have two DP's.

Atlas, sell me the craftsman! There is your answer, PM me with price!

But really, keep the craftsman, only if you have to get rid of one!

Keep whichever one has the slowest speed. This is one place that slower is better.

You are strengthening the argument of keeping both, one for metal and one for wood(assuming they are different speeds).

Keep both:willy_nil

I believe it is ILLEGAL to sell a tool leaving you with only one . As soon as you sell one , the motor on the other will die . NOW , it will cost more than what you got on the sale. I can't believe you even posted this. VERY SAD !!!!:(

I would try my best to keep both. It is handy to have both a floor model (large stuff) and bench model (small stuff) drill press. If I had to keep one. Personally I would keep the bench atlas. Atlas of that era were made really well and not very common on the used market unlike those Craftsmans, which are a dime a dozen on the used market. Then later down the road if you decide you need a floor model drill press, look for something larger than the craftsman.

The work capacity of the two you have now is not that much different. Plus you would be able to sell the craftsman floor model for more than the bench atlas, to the non collector type.

Dang that craftsman looks just like one that was my grandfathers stolen out of our shop. Never been replaced because all the new stuff I can afford is sloppy made by comparison. Still need to replace it. Let me know if you decide to sell it and live anywhere near Portland OR.
