Which Floor Drain?

Went to Lowes today to pick up some floor drain materials. Low and behold, the brass ones are $35! I need 4 of them, and I'm not paying $105 for floor drains (at least I hope I'm not.)

They have the smaller ones that would typically go into a shower, screw in flange 2" output, stainless top. They are $6, and seem just fine. I'm not going to be putting a bunch of water through them, and they are small enough that even driving over them shouldn't put to many PSI on them. If you can stand on them in the shower, you should be able to stand on them at any time. I guess if I tried to drive an engine hoist over them, I'd have a problem.

What do you guys recommend for floor drains?

I used shower drains. The concrete supports the PCV The cover will dent. I drive over them with vehicles without any problems.

Don't they stock plain old black ABS drains?Not as shiny but more durable than the shower ones.

They have various sizes of white ones, both round and square. Would that be a better choice? Seems like they'd flex instead of dent like the metal ones.

Um. ........ Get the right ones for the job. Brass ones. or go to a plumbing supply house and check out what Zurn or Mifab has for you. $105.00 wont seem so bad. But hey. What do I know I'm just a plumber by trade.

F.Y.I I had an 8' trough drain in the garage of my last house. $1100.00 for them. That was my cost.

I would also use the brass ones. Pay once and not have to worry about it.

Its not like you can go back and slide a better one under the concrete if you have issues later.

I couldn't find anything around here except the plastic. It is working fine, but I would have rather had the brass one.

The brass ones do seem like a better deal overall, I'd bet I'd spend a lot more repairing a motor if the hoist wheel dropped through one of the plastic ones.

Get some 1/8 steel plate and drill some holes, that's what I did for my neighbor.

Just don't bother with the drain. $25 for a sqeedgee and problem solved.

Willy Victor. One of the shops I worked for did a warehouse for a company ( can't remember who ) . The forklifts kept on popping up the brass ones ,so they found someone to make some covers on a water jet out of 1/2" plate.
