I was looking to buy the Hoover GUV but came across the Craftsman Remote Control Garage Vac.

Does anybody have any first hand experience with either of them? The remote control feature would be nice but I still can't really decide one way or the other....

Thanks!

The Craftsman is made by Vacmaster.

I tested a Channellock-branded version of the vac a while ago - http://toolguyd.com/channellock-wall-mount-vacuum-review/ - and it was a decent vac. The remote on/off was a nice feature.

The GUV comes with a longer hose.

I got the GUV last year and am pleased with it. The hose length they cite is the stretched state of the hose, so it's not nearly as long when using it.

I have the discontinued Kobalt that was also made by Vacmaster. The remote is ok. I liked the vacuum when I first got it. Now I am unhappy with it. It's suction just gets weaker and weaker as time as passed. I have new filters and they did not improve matters. Bought a Ridgid a few weeks ago and am very happy.

I was considering all the above, but found an older central vac system from a house, that I don't think was ever installed for 20 bucks. Unbelievable suction and you can plumb outlets all over your garage. Look on craigslist, you'll see them.

I have the Craftsman vacuum with remote. I personally think the remote feature is one of the greatest things about the vac. The wall mount is also a great space saving feature. The vacuum seams to have a decent amount of power and is in my opinion a great overall system.

I just bought the Vacu-Maid Garage Vac in blue. I have no idea how well it's going to work. The people on the phone at the company seemed pretty enthusiastic, though, and were quite happy to discuss both benefits AND drawbacks.

That's always a good sign. Whether or not it's going to be long-term investment remains to be seen, but that's just going to be a matter of determining whether or not it's the right choice for me.
