looking at getting a set of the gearwrench 120xp. trying to decide on if i should go with combination or box ends. like the idea i can use the fixed end to break loose then flip to use the ratcheting end. where i wouldnt use the open end to break it loose.

How often do you need an open end? I love my XL flex double box Gearwrench 120xp's but I also need open end a lot. They are very long by the way, great for that extra torque but limited with space.

Box ends are what I have my eye on.

Finally broke down and ordered the metric and SAE sets from NTX for $147. They also have a $5 off code. That was the cheapest I could find for both sets.

Edit: these are not the 120xp models

If you don't have a use for the open end, then go for double box. If you work on cars (which I do), especially for a living (which I do not), you sometimes have no other choice than using an open-end. Often times when I replace control arms, I have to use two wrenches and often one of them has to be used open-ended.

You could also have a separate, non-ratcheting set for the open-ended stuff if you do have some need for it but also do sometimes need an open-ended wrench as I do.

I really don't have any trouble breaking stuff loose with the ratcheting end.
I know they just seem to explode for some people, but if something is that stupid tight, I'll just grab a different wrench...

I like my combos. But I wouldn't mind having a set of double box end too....
