Which grease should I use?

I just picked up a Harbor Freight motorcycle lift table and thought I'd grease up the wheels and pivot points while assembling it. I was wondering what type of grease to use. I have some Lucas X-tra heavy grease lying around the house, I'm sure it's a bit overkill, but would that work, or should I use something else?

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Like you said, it’s not a critical application, so I guess I’ll just pick up an all purpose grease at the auto parts store. Grease is cheap and I’m sure I can use it other places around the house. Thanks again!

I agree. It’s not a critical application.

But this being Garage Journal, I have to recommend Mobil One synthetic. Operating range from -40 up to 302 degrees F. :)

I used to love M1 Synthetic grease, and still use it, but it separates in the gun and makes a ****** mess. I need to find an alternative that doesn’t make as much of a mess.

This is exactly the reason I'll never touch M1 grease again.

I'd just use what you have, but if I had to buy new, I'd look at an EP grease with 1-3% Moly.

I work out of a one pound can of Mobil One with a plastic snap on lid. It’s several years old and there is NO separation. It’s easy to dip your finger into the can and smear it on vise screws and sliding surfaces.
My grease gun is filled with old black conventional grease and that stuff separates and drips.

Good to hear I’m not the only one that leaves red grease drops all over the shop floor lol

I’ve got a 1 pound can I’ve had for two decades, I keep it on the gun bench, no separation at all. Tubes in grease guns separate and drip all over. I’ve tried pulling the plunger back to remove spring tension, I’ve tried storing the grease gun in the garage fridge, no joy, it still separates and drips.
