I have and use a torpedo heater through the winter. It is noisy, loud, somewhat smelly, kero has gotten much more expensive (what fuel hasn't though), you have to be a bit careful where the front is pointed, and did I mention it is really noisy.
That said, it has worked very well for me for at least 15 years in my uninsulated, drafty garage. I do change the all the filters in it every year. It is a 55K BTU and it will keep my largeish 2 car drafty garage toasty in anything above single digit windy nights. Of course I only run it when I'm working/in there.
Did I mention the noise still bothers me. :)
