I am looking at purchasing 7" & 10" Cobra and Pliers Wrench but am wondering which grip style to get.

Is there any real difference or advantage in the comfort grips vs the standard?

The standard grips are much easier to clean. Not much effect on their actual performance but something to think about.

I prefer the comfort grip, so I buy that whenever it's an option. It's durable, slightly nicer feel in my experience, and cleans up easily. That said, you can usually buy more pliers if you go with dipped instead of multi material. I just wait for good sales but if you need them right away dipped will save you money and you still end up with fantastic pliers.

None of the Knipex I have seen have been priced differently based on the grip. Maybe it has changed recently since I haven't bought much in the past couple years.

I have regular handles on all my Knipex but the CoBolt mini bolt cutters I got comfort grip. For pliers wrench and cobras regular handles suit me fine and is lower cost. To each his own, and as always with Knipex there are no wrong choices.

My Cobras have standard grip and it's an impressively grippy textured surface.

BUT... my needle nose pliers and linesman's pliers are comfot grip and I LOVE that stuff. Also, it might depend on how large your hands are. I have friends I know would moan and sniffle about the extra widith added to handles when you're putting your hands around them. I have big hands and I love their comfort grips. Texture, contour, firmness.

This is GJ, so I'll have to recommend you buy all of them.

try them yourself. i have regular grips and i find they're easier to clean off. Everyone has their own preferences, can't go wrong with either one.

with knipex, its nice to have both style of grips. comfort grips is more suitable with pliers wrench and bolt cutter maybe. I have x-cut with comfort grip, does'nt hurt the hand at all

I think anurag has a point. I have quite a few Knipex pliers, and generally prefer the regular grips. They wipe down much easier, and the comfort grips seem to be too big when you're trying to manipulate stuff. But... I have the 10 inch pliers wrench and generally find myself gripping it a lot firmer than the other style, and suspect the Cobras are the same, so the comfort grips have to be considered here!

Knipex offer both grips on the chromed pliers wrench, but I've a feeling that regular Cobras only come parkerised, which might be a consideration!

I just prefer the regular style. If you're gonna be using them for hours a day, or repetitive operations, I'd consider the comfort grips. The only pair of pliers I have with comfort grips are the Irwin badged NWS ErgoMulti, and I like them for that application.

I always get the regular grips because they're easy to clean and won't deteriorate like the comfort grips over time.

Knipex comfort grips are not any problem to clean, IMHO...

they also don't get crazy sticky or soft or smear or pick up dirt...they are pretty nice overall....well executed design... If you arew working without space constraints and they fit your paws I would say OK with no hesitations.

That being said--for mobile toolkits and where space is at a premium-- the standard grips pack very small. Definitely makes it easier to pack up a kit on the run. 6 inch cutters in standard handle are nice and packable.

(The same size in comfort grip is a touch longer and maybe has a tad more leverage if you really needed to stretch performance.)

Thanks for all the feedback, I just bought a set of 7 1/4 cobra's with the regular grips. Am going to order a set of 7" plier wrenches with the comfort grips.

I've gotten them both in now, the 7" Cobra with regular grips and the 7" Pliers Wrench with comfort grips.

I have to say I prefer the comfort grips, they seem to fit my hand better.

Maybe it's just psychological rationalization, but to me, it is amazing how a high quality tool feels vs. a low quality one. The Knipex stuff just screams quality. I went around the garage looking for nuts and bolts to tighten with the pliers wrench. It was somewhat like Christmas morning :)
