Ok so I got this 5 horse compressor and want a 7.5 horse motor to run it but may upgrade so a 10 isnt out of the question im curious if I should find a old baldor or the like or get a amazon cheapo.I know where a 20 horse 3 phase is real cheap and its a baldor but I cant figure out a way to run it.Would a 30 year old baldor last longer than a 300 dollar amazon motor.

Yes, a baldor will last longer. Up to you if the price differential is worth it.

Why do you want/need more than a 5hp? Higher HP wont make the compressor faster or pump more air (within reason). Maybe going from a 5 -> 7.5 and swapping pulleys would get you to the max RPM on the pump, but 10-20 is just overkill for no reason.

what sort of power do you have available, volts & amps . that may determine your max HP .
also , normally pumps are rated for a typical HP & RPM range . adding more HP than the pump requires makes no improvements to air delivery .
