I have a 32x40 and my 10’ sliding barn type door is on the 32’ NE side of the building for no particular reason. There was no planing on placement…but it has worked out well.

Mine is ahaped like horseshoe. I didnt want to cut the oak tree down. The drive through part is 30x60. It has two 16x16 areas on the north side. One is walled off from the rest for a “cave” and the other is like an open work bay. I planned it to run long on the backside to maybe add solar later plus with the big door facing east I can open it when the sun comes over the mountain and it will heat the concrete which helps the whole thing warm up on chilly mornings.

Attached garage is 21'x21'. Only used for Wife's car and kids ****. Single 16' door.

Detached is 28' wide and 32' deep. Couldn't go any bigger due to limitations of property set back. Two 7'x8' garage doors on gable end. Wish doors were 8'x8'. Using a 4 post lift I can park (2) cars and pickup.

30x40' but should have gone with 32x40'. The 30' (short wall) is gable end and has the single 8'x18' overhead door, and a man door. One eave side has lean to, double man door and 2 windows. I chose this configuration due to space restrictions on my lot.

I went 24x36 deep with 2 10x10 doors. When it was built I had a crew cab long bed dually and if was only 24 deep you would barely be able to walk around it.

If you don't need to store something as large as a dually I would go 36 wide with 3 doors.

I went with 30'x60' with the doors on the 60' side. That allows me to park vehicles in five bays without blocking any of them in.
