I've been tasked with adding some programmable t-stats in our shops at work. The shops are plumbed with dozens of Perfection brand gas infra-red heaters made in the 70's & 80's. In one of the shops I installed a couple regular furnace t-stats and used motor control relays to switch 120v power. This is for supplemental/emergency heat for the air make-up unit. Works ok but was a pain to make a box for mounting.
In the main shop I tried Honeywell electric baseboard t-stats. Easy to wire, easy to program, no battery, screw right onto the existing boxes. Easy, easy, easy, but the resolution is +/- 1 degree so when the get up to temp they cycle a lot. Then one totally failed in a week.
Anyone have a better solution or should I just buy switching relays and cheaper t-stats?
