Which puller should I keep?

I bought both of these pullers yesterday.
I really should sell one of them, as I could use the money.

So, what exactly is the difference between them?
Would they both be used for the same thing, or is one of them more specialized?


First is the New Britain.
It's 8" wide, and the arms are about 10" long.

Next is the Proto.
This one is 11" wide, and the different jaws are 10", 8 1/2", and 5 3/4" long.

I greatly prefer the style of Snap-on's two arm pullers with the crossbar. You can tighten that bar to keep the puller from slipping off. So I'd be inclined to say keep neither one, but you can really never have too many pullers in your arsenal; and I doubt you'd get much money selling either one. But I'd always try to make the more secure S-o puller do the job before taking either of those out of the drawer.

like any puller they need to be sized appropriately. if you are working on cars, light trucks and small engines, both of those will be overkill for most jobs. now if you work on large trucks and heavy equipmnet they may be just the ticket. i usw pulers such as that to pull hubs, pulleys and gears from shafts on my combine and a few other things around here on a pretty frequent basis.

As said, they need to be sized properly, but I find these to be the common size for automotive and general use. For most larger equipment, these pullers would be a joke. I would keep them both due to the difference in jaw thicknesses. Sometimes you have parts you dont want marred up by skinny jaws, so you need the wide ones. Sometimes the wide ones wont fit into the area youre working in.

If you got a deal, why not keep both? Think about how much one would cost if you needed to buy it, and its usually the one you sell that you need. Keep both.

You can never have to many pullers. I have collected a bunch of pullers along the way and some of them I don't use very much but when I need them it's nice to be able to pick a puller that is best for the job. Back when I only had a couple different pullers I wrecked a few things using the wrong puller. Personally I would never get rid of any puller unless I had two of the exact same models.

IMO the proto is better if you had to choose one. On the first design, if the puller gets "cocked", it will bend/twist the metal connector plates; the proto will not do that.

I have both and use the proto way more. Plus it's pebble face
You probably got them cheap keep both

i use a bar type more than a two jaw puller, but less than a three jaw. i'd keep the Proto.
