Considering a router for home use only. I'll probably get a cheap router table as well. Are they all created equal?? Who makes a good/sound model?

Much appreciated!

Ive got 1$ that says the craftsman routers motors are the same ones in ryobi, so id probably stay away from them.

You cant go wrong with dewalt in term sof quality, but youll pay for it. My neighboor (woodworker/carpenter) swears by bosch tools.

This is bad, I work too much, saw the title about router, and immediatly thought network router. Bah.

I have an old Craftsman router, does the job, beeds more power. I would definatly get a plunge router if I had to do it over again.

I would go with Porter Cable or Bosch.
You can make an awesome table out of 3/4" mdf covered with laminate.
Respect the router,it can bite you!

Porter Cables are great for either home or professional use. I have the 1.5 hp kit with the plunge and fixed base and a 3.25 hp plunge. I've used nearly every router out there at one time or another and IMO, the Bosch and Milwaukee aren't any better and don't justify a penny more.

For hand use, I have a Festool 1010 (with 8mm bits) and a Festool 1400 with 1/2" bits.

I also use a big Porter Cable 7518 in a Jessem Master-Lift Excel router table for larger precision work. SD

I have a Makita kit that has a 3 horse moter with both a plunge and a fixed base. Love will kill over it.

I too have the Makita kit and I love it. It had done anything I asked of it, but it was a little pricey. I have often thougt about getting a second Porter Cable base model so I don't have to change bits when doing dovetails on my Leigh jig.

I picked up the newer Miluakee fixed base, the palm grip sold me on it. Power is great, hasn't missed a beat.
