My floor is about four years old and had discolored due to sunlight. I am not going to redo with a UV protected product. My question is I am going to sand my existing floor to get good adhesion and to smooth it out. I have the choice of three sanders at the rental store:

1. A floor buffer/sander with 20" diameter pad

2. A floor sander with four orbital heads 6" I think

3. A square floor sand I guess about 5 X 10

Any experiences?

No experience, but it is not easy to sand usually because it is very hard, depends on the quality of the epoxy. My guess is the buffer as long as you have a few pads.

If you are going to just degloss the existing epoxy, I'd use the parquet floor sander. This is a vibrating type sander. The swing machines work but turn the paper fast and wears it out quickly. I normally use a 60 to 100 grit, depending on just how rough you want it. If prepping for a new coat of epoxy, all you really need to do is create small micro scratches. Thus the term deglossing.

If you are trying to completely remove the epoxy you are going to have to go with something far more aggressive than sand paper. gene
