I love my Wera's, for precision work Wiha is damn good.
Wiha offers more precision profiles than any other brand I'm aware of, and are my overall go-to brand in this segment.

If it's purely quality you're after however, I'd suggest giving PB Swiss a go for your most used drivers (got my best deals by buying from German eBay sellers).

Oh, and if you're interested in precision JIS, Moody would be worth a look (they go down to #000; even Vessel doesn't offer one that small). The handles may not be totally straight in regard to the driver shafts, but the tips are of good quality IME.

I've had "junk" screwdrivers fail--handle breaks or separates from the shaft; or the shaft is so soft it gets torn-up by the screw head. I expect that. All these screwdrivers except one were gifts from people who didn't know better.

Mac isn't on the poll list. I have had repeated failure with a certain Mac driver--a very long straight-blade "cabinet" screwdriver. The "vapor-blasted" tip shatters, and the vapor-blasting flakes off. Happened twice; got the blade warrantied once, shattered again the next time I used it. I don't use it much any more. Been sitting in the screwdriver drawer of my box for thirty years. I bought it to adjust idle mixture screws on carbs. No real torque, but also no proper way to align the driver with the mixture screw, so it's always working at some slight angle.

I've never shattered or broken a Snap-On driver, but I've worn-out Phillips tips. I've known others (decades ago) who snapped the Phillips tip off, and that's been mentioned earlier in this thread. I heard some years ago--on this forum, I think--that Snap-On changed the manufacturing process for their screwdriver blades. I've forgotten the details--used to be forged, now they're stamped; used to have the tips cold-formed, now they're hot-formed...I don't really remember.

I've deformed Craftsman straight-blade and Phillips screwdriver tips. I don't complain too much. Sears took care of me. I got reasonable if not exceptional life out of them.

I've worn out a few screwdrivers over the years. No complaints about that. The ones that have actually failed - twisted or deformed - have pretty much died honestly. Usually it's on corroded zinc-plated fasteners installed where the proper choice would have been stainless. (I work on boats a lot.)

Not really a failure, but I once bought a Matco straight bladed screwdriver to take out on a job as a backup, I wound up not using it, and traded it, with its handle still wrapped in plastic, for a SHD 4 Snap on.

I just couldn't get my head around the shape of the handle.

Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate it. It's a shame I couldn't add more brands to the poll, PB Swiss would have been a good one.

I'm guessing Craftsman screwdrivers are the ones people grab when they plan to abuse a screwdriver. :)

I've worn out different brands of Phillips screwdrivers.

The only real failure I've had was a Harbor Freight torx screwdriver that actually twisted on a stuck screw. The torx end kind of has a nice corkscrew to it now. :lol_hitti
