Trying to get a 24" deep shelving unit.

I am thinking of getting the first one because of the price, I wanted to make the first level at a height so I can roll something like a pressure washer under it.
The second one has caster taking up 4" of height so the first shelf has more height.

Another option if you have a retailer near by that sells it is Gorilla Rack - you can set the height of the shelves where ever you want - it goes together without fasteners for the most part and is very very strong. Shelves depending on the span between the uprights and the material you use for the shelf will hold over 1000lbs.

Are you able to make your own? The 24" depth makes a bunch of 2"x4" and a few sheets of plywood seem like a good option.

For sure I am able to build my own but plywood is about $45 a sheet and need 2 sheet and maybe 8-10 2x4s I'm looking at over $100+ so I'd prefer to buy a prefab metal shelf

I had this exact conversation with my wife about shelving about a week ago, 2-3 years ago I built shelving in the shed and basement for about half or less of what it costs for metal shelving, now the metal garage rack systems are about the same cost as wood, and you get way less work to change for new needs with the racking.... pretty sure I'm not going with wood this year when the building goes up.

I bought a bunch of gorilla shelves at Sam's several years back. Really liked how they went together and the modular design of the shelfs. The demintions were 96hx48wx18d which i like better than the 24" deep. With 24" deep always seem the items you want are on the top shelf behind something else.

Do a craigslist for pallet shelving or pallet racking. I was was able to find some pallet racking at local scrap yard when a company went out of business and the building was cleaned out. The uprights I got at the scrap yard was 42", I would have liked a couple 24" but considering I was paying scrap price I took what I could get. There is a place close by that deals with "refurbished" racking, I checked with them to see if they had some uprights to match the rails I got and they did have some 28" that my rails would work with so I'll probably go back with the truck and get 2 or 4 of them.
