Let me start by saying I'm a millwright apprentice and i'm finishing out my tool list with metric tool (for the second time)
Well, this time i feel like i'm doing it right. I'm really torn between two sets for my metric 1/2 inch sockets and i'm wanting some opinions hopefully from other millwrights
the first set is the 4038 a pretty complete set that starts at 10 and goes to 30 with no skips and includes the 32 36 and the 46 and a molded plastic case.
and is around 180 shipped.
the next is the 4037 another pretty comlete set the starts a 8 and goes all the way to 30 with no skips and has the 32 and 36 on socket rails (this is not a plus) a pretty well rounded set i'd say
around 174 shipped on ebay

Money wise i think the 4038 is the better deal because the 46mm is a 35 dollar socket and the two small ones not included only amount to about 15 dollars but how common are 46mm fasteners? I've seen them in the automotive industry a bit but i'm not an auto-mechanic.

Also the molded case would be pretty handy opposed to the rails. i'm starting to convince myself but what do you think?

which would you use more often, a 46mm or an 8mm? I don't think I've ever used a 1/2" drive socket smaller than 3/8 or 10mm (including both since I use both). If it's a little 8mm (or 5/16) then I'll be using a smaller ratchet.

I guess what I'm saying is I'd go for the 4038 set.
