I have the one with the little ball on the end and it has treated me just fine. I really think it makes no difference.

If you are buying new, you can only get the flared end one, and that end was added to help from your fingers/hand slipping off less then the ball end one dose.
I have the newer one and love it.

Fine minds think alike; its one of those ratchets I rarely find at the flea market! I'm surprised you don't have one either! :)

Seriously,
I can't help but look at the picture of that ratchet and think that the head is ridiculously large for a stubby. They got lazy and bobbed the handle of a ratchet with a very large, fat head. If they really wanted to earn all that money they charge for their tools, then they would have designed a smaller head for those stubby ratchets. I mean, how much torque can you apply to one of those things anyway?

I have the current flared end one. I am building an old 50's style custom 47 ford, and I do a lot of mockup assembly and dissassembly, and this is my favorite ratchet. Im working in situations where a lot of torque isnt necessary, but a nice small ratchet without a lot of handle in the way is a major help.

I cant wait to replace my 36 tooth version with a dual 80 though!

The head is one of the smallest in the industry; if it were laying next to a Cornwell stubby, you'd clearly see what I mean. :D

I cannot believe that there is discussion about which end of a ratchet is more comfortable. There are just WAY too many possible innuendos...

I prefer a ratchet with a reservoir tip.

Seriously guys... if I wanted a ratchet to shove up my ***, I'd go for the ball end design. If I wanted one to actually turn nuts and bolts, I'd go for the newer flared one. [/thread]

Wait, you have a stubby with a ball on one end?
First, I am sorry that you have a "stubby". Second, it should have two balls on one end.
I am glad to hear that it has treated you fine, though.:lol_hitti

it's all good as long as your hand doesn't slip off :bounce:

You all might be pleasured to know that I nicknamed this particular ratchet in light of the one ball thing "OL One Eye".............I thought you might appreciate that! ;)

I like this one. But I sleep on a bed of nails at night so I may not be the best one to ask about comfort.

I had the upper (older) one and lost it. I then bought the newer one and soon thereafter Murphy's Law applied and I found the lost one. They are essentially equivalent tools to me... Hold a gun to my head and I would pick the newer one with the flared end.

I hate my new style Snap-On stubby.

The sharp flaring on the end really digs into your palm when breaking loose the rear spark plugs on a V6 Avalon or Sienna van. And only a stubby fits under the intake manifold.

The SK stubby and the old Snap-On are the best when you need a lot of force, but only a stubby ratchet will fit.

I'm happy with my GearWrench 60 tooth flex stubby so far. No sharp edges, very smooth ratcheting action, and it flexes! Only $35 shipped from Amazon.com. Model 81212.

He's using it for lightly torqued fasteners, where it works great. If you can grasp it with all 4 fingers and work it like a normal ratchet, it's great.

Now imagine the use I described: Breaking a sparkplug loose with a stubby requires a lot of force. But nothing else fits back there on the #2 plug behind the intake manifold. So you're shoving on the end of the handle with the heel of your palm.

That sharp edge ***** in that situation.

TNToy, I feel your pain,I know exactly what you are talking about!

I have the old Snappy with the ball. Before I got that one though, I took an older New Britain ratchet & cut the handle off where it starts to knurl then smoothed the cut. I tend to use that one alot more for some reason.

The cut off handle became useful about a week later when the handle for my bushing/seal drivers disappeared. I just drilled/tapped the end for a bolt & it works well, a little small though.

They sell Titan off Mac trucks?

I have the Snap On FK936 3/8 inch drive stubby ratchet and love it. It is especially useful in tight spots where it is difficult to use long handle ratchets.
