Which Snap-on Toolbox Color?

I am upgrading to a KRL7022 and debating between an extreme green or classic red box. I love the green, but I am worried that if I go to sell the box in the distant future, green will be seen as a fad color. I know the red is a classic and more traditional. Just curious for some opinions or thoughts.

Thanks.

I completely agree with you. I think the extreme green is awesome and would love to have one that color, but in my opinion red will stand the test of time.

Been thru this myself, extreme green is real popular but I almost bought a teal one 20 years ago, and although I still like the teal, I don't like enough to look at everyday

When tool boxes started coming out in lots of different colors I thought it was pretty cool. Still, I never bought anything but red boxes and now I'm very glad that I stayed with red. Black would suit me too but some colors are just too much. Red is classic; that's all I need.

I went with black on KRLs & stainless steel tops and just ordered a KRSC43 kart in black. I have a 30 plus year old taco cart in red that I am thinking of sending out to be painted black.
One of the GJ had listed a krl1033 in yellow about a 1/3 of what I paid, plus shipping. But I could not bring myself past the color.

Lets not even bring up the burnt orange color. I have a purple matco 3 bay that I have had for years. I so want to trade it for the snap on orange box. Just cant justify the money right now Matco paid for orange snap on lighter wallet. Guess its the matco for a while longer.

If its for a shop the lighter the color the easier time you'll have keeping it clean. I know that sounds backwards but other than the drawer fronts you're basically cleaning off dust. Lighter colors also hide nicks, dings, and scratches the best. Whatever you do stay away from dark textured colors. Impossible to keep clean without making it a job unto itself.

Never saw a reason for the extreme green love. Looks terrible in my opinion. Tools it makes sense for visibility reasons. On a tool box? No thanks. If you really like it though then that's what matters. I don't see its demand going anywhere.

Anther thing to consider is when wanting to add either a hatch or side cabinet/locker. Unless you are going to buy new it maybe easier to find those sort of things used in a color like red then green.

Lad i work with bought a nice red set

This on to be exact. And althought looks ok in the pic, the red is a patchy , light n dark in places. The snappy rep is good and he has sent pics in explaining the problem and the lad that owns it has even mopped and poished it , getting rid of the orange peel effect has helped greatly. How ever foe what he has paid for the box i would have gone to the trouble.
I have a black box ,lovely colour however god it shows up the dust. Im buying whit next at least the bondo in the workshop will be hidden.

Green isn't that bad at resale.

From experience yellow and orange are the hardest to sell.

My most popular color by sales

My experience has been different. Don't know if you are talking new or used. I only sell used. Red is most popular because there are more of them available. I have yet to own an extreme green one but have a standing order for a triple bay if I come up with one. Orange has sold very well for me but those boxes were in mint condition. Blue has sold well, and black is ok. Anything with gold trim is outdated and hard to sell. Yellow has moved well also. White,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh I would love to have some white boxes.

To the OP, long term red would be your best bet. Extreme green is and has been hot, but it may very well fade in popularity in time. That said, if I had a Taco to paint, it would be extreme green just for the wow factor.

For the amount of money you're going to spend you should get any color you want, especially if you desire something unique or not seen often.
I've watched these boxes selling on CL and eBay for the past 4-5 years and compared to what they pay new, the guys selling are losing their butts.
For the loss you'll take anyway if you decide to sell , which will be thousands, a couple hundred one way or the other for a paint color won't matter.

My next one is going to be white, I don't care if I have to clean it every day.

You won't have to clean every day, I clean mine every other week and I don't think I'll ever have another color box except white. They look really good. I'm redoing a 1976 KR562 and it's going white also.

I knew a guy who bought a teal box. Everyone loved it when it was unloaded. After 3 months everyone hated looking at it. I vote red.

Your paying for it. Buy whatever you like and be happy with it. Who know for sure if you will ever sell it / trade it in. I have had colors and special edition boxes and have never had it effect trade in value.

I still like my green box and everyone's comments about it are positive...too bad they dropped the Micah green color....

I like the "berry" color. I bought this to clean up and sell but I may keep it now.

Mine are classic Red. It doesn't hurt that that is my favorite color.

Red for mechanics, Kennedy Brown for machinists is the prevailing tradition. Buy whatever you like, but stick with a "classic" color if you want to resell it easily.

Thanks for your input everyone. It's much appreciated. I think I will go with red. I love the green, but there is something about the classic Snap-on look that I can't seem to shake.
