Hey,

I've worked with tools I haven't payed for the past 8 years (the taxpayers did), and I am in love with certain Snap-on tools, namely the flank drive sockets and wrenches. However, I cant help but notice some tools are baltently re branded (and substantially marked up). For example, a set of SO hex wrenches is a set of Bondhus, and I'm sure the "BH" in the beginning of the part number is proof. Also, the Blue-Point jump starter we use is a Clore JNC660 'Jump-N-Carry' 1,700 Peak Amp 12-Volt Jump Starter. At TWICE the cost. Also noticed pneumatic impact guns are Ingersall-Rands.

Anyways, I am slowly outfitting my personal tool collection, and I would love to know if anyone has any info on which tools are made in-house by SO and which come from other (reputable) companies. I would really like all matching SO tools, but I'm not paying $50 for a $20 set of Channel locks because of the name.

I love SO tools, but I don't want to be ripped off. I'm not trying to start a flame war that SO tools are overpriced, just want to know if anyone has any insight on the re branding.

Pretty much anything Blue Point is rebranded. One particular refrigeration manifold they sell is the same as the Imperial Eastman sets I use. Snap On gets over $260.00 for them. I can get them from just about any A/C supply house for about $180.00. The Blue Point timing light Snap On sells for $395.00 is made by Equus/Innova. You can get it at parts stores for about $85.00. My Innova is their top of the line & only ran me around $120.00.

Mostly anything with "YA" in the part number is rebranded ...and it's mostly reserved to blue point

MOST things labeled "snap on" are either made in house, or made by a company/factory that snap on owns

There are many things that SO rebrands. Most of what is said above is true.

One thing many forget is SO is professional tools for the professional user. Because of that their dealer network lets you buy the tool on payments, and yes there is a price for doing that. Not saying they do not want to sell to the weekend warrior, its just not their targeted customers.

I believe that SO owns sioux air tools. So I would think that most of the air tools are modeled after them.

SO does have large catalog in the BWD line. It includes many products that are not SO, but lets the dealers have access to it. Again I think SO knew that dealers were outsourcing some products, so they set up huge warehouses, and became distributors, for this product. Giving the dealer the ability to have national buying power.

Last but not least, rebrand or not, if it says SO on it, it will be worth more when it is sold someday. I did not say the functionality of the product will change any. Go to any tool auction, flea market, or any other place. SO tools sell for more.

I have a great all metal 250 ft-lb torque wrench made by CDI. Got it from Amazon. Came with a calibration certificate and a nice case. Apparently, CDI produces torque wrenches for Snap On.

FWIW, Snap-On owns CDI.

So I apologize I don’t know what I’m doing computer wise I’m not that savvy. Anyways I have two snap-on welding helmets that are made by save phace. Really cool company lots of designs and patterns but mine have that classic $400-$600 sticker on top. Also when I got them the visors were the solid type though they were supposed to be auto darkening. Went online did a general Google search found save phace, that had a link to Newegg.com which happened to have two auto darkening lens left in stock for a great deal. So all in all I spent $85 on the helmets and $140 on both visors so total spent was $112.50 per helmet that retails at $500 ish I think if I remember correctly. Ever since then I’ve kept a closer eye on the snap-on product line to watch for the rebranded tools so I know where to go to get the better deal. Like cebora pocket turbo 130 sold in Italy made by Daytona rebranded by snap-on in the 80’s and 90’s. That’s a need to know thing when you’re trying to fix the broken welder you got from your uncle that didn’t have clue what happened to it, where he got it, or even how much he paid for it. Unfortunately it’s still not fully functional 🤷🏻‍♂️ but there’s two items I know of for fact have been rebranded with a $400 sticker. Hope it helps.

Snap on impacts are not IR they are made in house.
SO impacts wish they were IR.

Never been impressed with their impacts, I think they fool a lot of people about the amount power they actually have because they make so much noise. There's a whole list of impacts that outperform them.
