Hi, it's time for a new pair of long reach needle nose pliers. I'm curious what style you guys prefer -- the traditional like the Proto or the double-jointed style like the Crescent. Or maybe they each have their purpose?

The two pics below are just from quick searches -- would love to hear any recommendations on a quality brand. Thanks!

I have all single joint and never felt the need for the double....when i needed to pick junk out of the fuel tank on my 1957 ford tractor i could have used them.

You gotta have both!!!

Now to take my own advise, I need to get a pair of the double jointed ones.[emoji41]

I love my double-jointed pair. Longer reach, easier to operate and better visibility in tight spots.

I have the Quinn pair from Harbor Freight. I think I paid $11 with a coupon. They're just as well made as the Crescents and better than the Irwins I looked at.

They've saved me far more than $11 worth of frustration.

I prefer the double jointed as you have better reach with them. I have the Napa/Carlyle pliers (Gearwrench OE). The straight tip version doesnt get used as much as the 45* tip version.

As do I. Just as good as any of the other China made versions at a better price

I have both, two of the crescent (double action) straight and bent nose and three of the older HF single joint (straight, 45 and 90 degree). I like the double joints ones better for grip action and longer reach.

A while back someone on Ebay was clearing out Blackhawk single joint sets, I regret that I did not get a set, those would have been a nice set similar to older Proto versions.

Off topic but, the older HF ones I have to keep oiled or surface rust starts pretty quickly.

I have both the single and double action style in straight as well as 45-degree tips. I generally reach for my Snap-on single action long reach needle nose pliers but when you need that little bit extra I do use my Carlyle double action. I had only the single action for many years and only purchased the double action extra long ones about 6 or 7 years ago.

I have the Blachhawk, crescent double jointed, and also SK- which are more HD than the others. So you need at least two :)

I with several other members here jumped on the ebay deal on the blackhawk single jointed ones, can't believe I lived 30 some years without them. Still haven't found a deal on double jointed that got me to part with my money so maybe I don't know what I'm missing out on but the blackhawks are now the first pliers out of my box for 99% of the time that I need a pliers.
