The montezuma boxes ive seen are damn nice. Craftsman are decent. It all comes down to what YOU prefer. I bought a new box about a month or so ago. I was debateing on a HF, Used Cman, New Cman, or saving up for a montezuma. After thinking about it some, i figure i would like somthing i can transport in my own vehicle, and not have to have help getting it in or out. So i bought a 3 chest 26" Cman, has 13 drawers, bottom chest is 18" deep, middle and top are 16" deep. I paid a little over 500 for it. Yes, more then the roller from harbor freight, and alot more then the used cman, but its all i could physically fit in my hatchback car. This box stands over 6' tall, and has plenty of room. Sure, in 5-10 years i may have to buy a new box, but by then hopefully i get my career going and am making good money as a tech. But once im done with tech school (1 more semester), and if i decided its not for me, that box would probly last many many years. It all depends what you want. After all, you will be the one using it!

Which one did you have that was thin garbage?

They were newer Waterloo built top boxes, both were top chests 4 drawer I think, ball bearing slides etc. I have looked at even the top of the line stuff at the stores. The new stuff just isn't built that well. Like i said i love older craftsman boxes, but i wouldn't even consider the current models.

I would agree that the older boxes are much better than the new stuff. The "Premium" with Griplatch is decent IMO though.

I will say, I've been giving some thought to a new 56" that I don't need from Montezuma though, especially after reading through here and elsewhere. :lol_hitti

The Griplatch boxes are not bad. The three Sears stores near here had none of them on the floor the last time I was in each of the stores. They're pushing the cheapest stuff. Kind of a shame that when you want to buy the better Craftsman box, you wind up doing it blindly at this time of year.

I have no complaints about my 52" Griplatch roller in terms of quality versus price. Ditto for the 26" Griplatch top chests I have; for the (on sale) price, they're good homeowner boxes. I don't overload boxes at home; I have the space to avoid putting 100 lbs of tools in any drawer. They don't get opened and closed dozens of times every day like a professional's box. They're almost never moved except the 26" rollers.
