I've been contemplating what color to paint my currently multi-colored tool chest for about a week now have narrowed down my options to two color Schemes. The Box that I am going to paint is a 10 drawer Husky 41" combo along with two HarborFreight side cabinets. Personally, I'm leaning toward the yellow theme ever so slightly.

Here are pictures I pulled off Google Images that are the same color schemes I like. First is the Yellow with black trim...

and secondly, royal blue with aluminum trim...

If you are going through that much trouble find a DuPont or Sikkens auto paint catalog and give your imagination free rein!

I vote for whatever matching vehicle I have at the moment. Right now it's blue, so I vote for blue. But, if I can get a yellow Challenger, well?

Never been a fan of blue, however if you are going to custom paint I'd probably color match my car or something.

What color is your shop? Do you have accent stripes or is the trim painted? Maybe choose a color that will compliment your color scheme in your shop.

Oh and I vote blue.

Yellow. Just because it stands out a little more. But over the yellow, I'd pick out a custom color. Sears has an orange box in their catalog that doesn't look too bad.

Thanks for the input everybody. I've decided to go with blue and aluminum trim. Any suggestions for what brand or type of paint? I don't have an air compressor so spray guns are out of the question. I was thinking of Duplicolor Royal Blue.

I vote yellow to match my Cobra.
I also vote don't spray can the chest. I don't think you'll be happy with the results. Find a buddy with a compressor and gun, rent, trade something, whatever you have to do. And use a good automotive paint. You'll thank yourself for the extra effort.

I do agree with you as well.

Believe me I'm trying to avoid spray painting but its the only option that seems feasible for me at this time. The reason I brought up spray paint is because I've painted a job site box and had great results with Duplicolor. With allot of patience and rigorous prep work, I know I am capable of getting the results I want out of a can.

I liked the yellow. If you're going to rattle can it, how about going to an auto paint store, and getting them to mix some real paint and put it in a can for you?

The prettiest box I ever saw was a Snap On special edition that the red was just a shade or two deeper than the traditional Snap On red, and the lid (front cover) had reproduction decals of all the Snap On logos from day 1.

Of the two boxes in the voting, I prefer the yellow.

Yellow.
Most my boxes are black, some red, one blue. Don't think I really like blue in a toolbox.
Yellow with the black trim looks nice.

Or get them to make you up a better color like has been said.
Metal flake Orange comes to mind, or Rasperry with black trim.
