Anything that's not made in the USA with SNAP ON name. If I want Bahco or Herramientas Eurotools, I buy them with out the price mark up.

All of them. ;)

I dislike tool truck stuff, but especially Snap-On. It's all overpriced.

i agree.........anything rebranded.

I agree completely here, but with one addition. I won't buy anything from SO that no longer displays the USA stamp. Not going to argue about whether or not it's just a marketing ploy or what some phone rep. says or whatever else, that's for another thread. :deadhorse

If it doesn't say USA on the tool, or it's simply re-branded, I'm not paying SO prices. It's that simple. :dunno:

I don't own any Snapon tools simply because of their price. I can buy other brands that work just as well and for much less money. My tools are for functionality, not for impressing somebody.

We think alike.

I've used Snap-On tools. Sure they're nice, but for the price I just don't see the return in better functionality. A socket is a socket, if they both do the job to the same standard. As a business owner, I have to weigh production versus cost. I just don't see a return in production or tool life from Snap-On tools commensurate with their increased price.

I don't consider it bashing the brand. The OP asked what we wouldn't buy from Snap-On. The answer for me has been, to this date, everything. :)

So do SO air tools have a bad rep? I'm no longer selling on ebay for the pawn shops but when I did the SO air tools almost always sold poorly especially in relation to their retail cost. I could never tell if it was an issue with quality or being able to get similar quality for a lot less than SO prices.

I simply don't like the pearhead ratchets, I don't like the way they feel. I prefer the corporate Danaher 60 tooth mechanism to anything else I've tried.

Any snap on sockets. Craftsman sockets are good enough for me and I hate to have to chase a truck to get a socket warranted. BTW, I'm a weekend warrior, and your gas mileage may vary.

Philips #1 screwdriver. Snap on should mark it Philips #1.5, because that's what it really is. That said, Snap on Philips #1 screwdriver is useless, although their Philips #1 bits are pretty nice.

For constant 8 hour shop use our BP and S-O tools didn't hold up. (This was early-mid 90's versions of the tools). But I don't think they were meant for that. Instead we switched to IR 231C. Other factors probably contributed to their demise. Like not operators (probably) not taking care to oil, etc.

I'd buy the urethane hammers if I could afford them. I bought one BP ball pein 8 oz. hammer off the truck.

Regarding the original topic, I also would avoid anything rebranded.
I haven't had any Snap-on tools that were poor quality so it's usually price that dictates my purchases.
I could never see myself buying 1/4 sockets. I can't see enough difference between Snap-ons and other brands to warrant the extra money.

I will NEVER buy an asian manufactured tool sold by Snap-on.

For the most part I avoid buying rebranded stuff from Snap-on, but have done so occasionally.

With many tools, I prefer a different manufacturer. However, that does not mean that I would never buy the Snap-on version.

It has nothing to do with the "guts" of the ratchets, it has to do with head thickness and general balance. I don't HATE them, I just have others I prefer. I also have a beef with the way SO corporate terminated my dealer, who was a hell of a guy, so I have some hard feelings there. In short, OK tools, just not my preferred brand.

Here's one to think about. I am a self confessed cheapskate, but I had a very good friend who was a Snap-On dealer for quite a while. I bought and paid decent money for 1/4 and 3/8 stuff that I wanted and needed. For what I do, though I couldn't justify paying the money for 1/2" drive stuff. I bought 1/2" mostly from Sears, but some Mastercraft Maximum. 1/4 the price or more, and better warranty since Trina from Sears or the high school kid at Canadian Tire doesn't know the ratchet had a pipe on it or the socket was in an impact. Knock on wood, I only ever had to replace one cracked socket from Sears. The hassles from the new Snap-on dealer..........:(

Just a curious question...

That box in your avatar (and the tools contained within), does it belong to you, or the company you work for?

That was my point exactly when I said I wouldn't buy anything Snap-on for more than a dollar. If I see a Snap-on tool in the dollar bin at the flea market or pawn shop I will buy it and I DO have quite a few Snap-On tools. The OP asked a question, I gave an honest answer and he got pissed. Typical Snap-On primadonna attitude.

I'm absolutely shocked by you guys not liking the pear-head ratchets; they're my favorite SO tools next to their wrenches.

Air tools, electric tools, pry bars, screwdrivers and rebranded specialty tools are some I stay away from because of price.

I buy ratchets, breakers, sockets, drive tools and wrenches.

air tools , paid appx 400.00 for the 6100 series 1/2 drive impact , lasted about 3yrs then got weaker and weaker.
still have it but i did not get my money out of it
3/8 impact red in color ....still own it but as stated with other impact got weaker and weaker over time .....not worth what i paid 350.00 ??
for me everything else has held up but the tools are over priced , 90 percent of what i own is snap on
air tools are now I.R and AIRCAT

Pear head ratchets.

Second the pear head ratchets. Hate Em.

While I have never found SO ratchets better than any others I own, I've certainly never had a problem with them. I thought they were the next best thing since sliced bread to all you guys. Especially the highly coveted 80 tooth.:headscrat

I'm slightly taken aback as well. It's the first I have heard of this dissing of Snap-on's ratchets. This is almost GJ sacrilege.

Wrenches. I hate how the handle is thin. Cuts into your hand and gets all messed up from wacking with a hammer. Plus a wrench set costs $500 and the same at Sears is $100

I like my Snappy ratchets, but the guys at work used to break them ALL the time (I used to run the tool room)

Bluepoint. Just rebadged stuff that Napa, Sears, Lowe's etc carries for the most part... along with 2x the price.

I can talk **** about Snappy... used to go through about 20k in tools/boxes a year with them till I switched to Matco. Their warranty is horrible and alot of the tools not much better.

I do like their toolboxes, but would never pay full retail.

I think everyone is talking about the pear head ratchets with the quick release button.

you-can-think-of-a-dozen-uses-for-this-new-snap-on-tools-wet-dry-shop.jpg

With this type of item becoming more the norm for Snap on in my news feeds. I am beginning to wonder.

With that said I also prefer the round head Snap on's to the pear heads.

What's wrong with that vacuum Rusty?

the fact that it is a vacumn i think makes it pretty obvious. snap on needs to concentrate on the things they used to do best. they have spread themselves too thin and it shows in some of thier tools quality...
