Which torque wrench?

Precision instruments make good wrenches and also makes some for Snap on. I have a SO version in 3/8" in/lbs (150) and 1/2" in ft/lbs (250). Both have been very good through out the years. Mine are 30 + years old and were still in spec a few years ago when I had them checked. If you go this style, make sure you get a follow up pointer. My 3/8" one has it and I wish I would have gotten one on my 1/2" one.

SO offered a free re-designed cap for many years but I believe it's no longer available as they've changed the entire handle design.

Contact SO to see what they can do for you. A couple years ago I sent in an original TechWrench and they replaced the entire plastic handle shell (with improved endcap) for $60 if memory serves me. Very reasonable to keep a high-end tool working & looking like new.

Eeastwood has some split beams that look pretty good but I have yet to see any mention of them here. If you have any experience with them please post. I thnk they are in the $60 -$90 range. I have also seen a number of complaints of new Precision wrenches arriving with rust on them.

You should have a look at NORBAR, excellent wrenches, comes with a case and a calibration certificate, I have a couple of 3/8 and 1/2 with various ranges and they are always accurate when I get them checked. NORBAR makes them for other companies also such as WERA among others (can't remember now). They are a U.K. company norbar.com

I use a craftsman clicker in both 1/2" & 3/8" My 1/4" clicker is from harbor freight. It doesn't see much use but none of them have let me down.

I have a CDI and two Protos. The CDI is laser engraved, which I dislike. The Protos have proper deep stamped markings, but the knurling is a bit sharp. I assume they're all equally accurate, having seen only very light use.

Agree with Mr Ratchet,
I’ve got 6 torque wrenches with 4 being precision instruments split beams.
Have had my 1/2 inch for over 25 years being used in field service and still passes our 3 month calibration schedule. Wasted time and money with snap-on wrenches going out of calibration and not being repairable due to obsolete parts!!
