We'll forgive the question . . because you REALLY got it right !!!

The VICE that is better . . . is buying ALL the good old vises you can !! That is true indication that you've caught the GJ bug !! :D

BUY BOTH . . . The 5" Larson can be your everyday vise, while you are re-storing the older Power-Kraft. That PK is pretty cool old vise that's a keeper.

You know . . . you can NEVER have Too many vises !!! ;)

Haha, thanks...I am slowly catching the bug! The hot deals section has definitely lightened my wallet, but its worth it!

BB: you didn't spell vice wrong because that's what the rest of the world outside the US calls a vise. the Powerkraft would be my choice if my budget was $20 and those were the only two vises, but i'd like to see a better picture or make sure that the jaws are not broken or needing replacing. they might be loose, but something doesn't look right in that picture.

the other vise is actually a Larin which is a very low end vise and might only cost $40-50 brand new. it's made in China i'm pretty sure.

good luck and if the Powerkraft isn't broken, cracked or welded that is worth the $20 and will make a decent vise for you bench until you find an old one that weighs over 50 pounds for a bit more money.

I am looking to add a cheap vise to my workbench and found two cheap options on CL and need help identifying which is better (Assuming both aren't junk and not worth buying)
!

The Larin might be worth $20, and it's a good size. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for the smaller Wards vise.

I have one of those Power-Kraft vises. I bought it brand new, used it for about 10 years, put it in storage and just reactivated it.

I like the pipe jaws and swivel base. Not strong enough to be used as a press, but a damn good unit.

I mounted it to this roll around work bench. Perfect application.

Hey Mod...you've got way too many nice Fords in the background in your shop. Are they all yours? Got more pix?

I'm sure you will find chapter and verse on the GJ vise vice thread...

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44782

I'm with the others, buy 'em both.. I've got 4 different general purpose vises in service in my home workshop and garage.. Plus 2 wood working vises, two milling vises, three small / drill press vises, a pipe vise, three tool makers vises, a hand vise, etc etc. Yes, I've got the vise vice..

Thank you everyone for the input! As of now, only the seller of the Powr-Kraft has responded, so that makes my decision easier
