Which Vise should I get?

Looking to purchase a good vise made in the USA. I'll use it to restore a couple of automobiles, build a race car or two and handy man stuff around the house. I've looked at Wilton and they seem to be a hearty product, but I don't need to go overboard as well. Any suggestions?:headscrat

Thanks

I'm also looking for a vise. Nothing worthwhile available second hand so I'll probably buy new.
Locally I can source:
Irwin
Groz
Ridgid

Which one should I look into?

I would consider Ridgid if you are looking for new:

http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/F-Series-Vises/index.htm

http://www.bettymills.com/shop/supe...egory/Swivel Base/manufacturer_id/Ridgid.html

The Wilton's are nice if you can find one used but the parts are seem to be hard to find and are expensive. Also I think the Ridgid ones are forged steel as I think the Wilton's are cast iron.

Yes, Ridgids are better then Wilton IMHO:
- Stronger (Forged vs. cast)
- Greater depth and opening width
- Adjustable jaw alignment

Excellent restoration and did you have the new jaws or did you order them? Now, for you guys out there looking to buy a new vise instead of a used one, this is the perfect example in my mind why you should consider a used vise. This vise is every bit as good as a new one and better. I was the previous owner and I can tell you this vise was used sparringly. With those new jaws, it will outlast any vise being made today. At $135, its a very fair price.
