Which vises should I keep?

I went through a phase of grabbing cheap vises to restore. Clearly I never got around to it. I've got a total of five now and really only have a need for two. One for general use and one for working on firearms.

I'm actually thinking I might keep three. The Columbian that's already mounted, and the two Records (3VS and No3) just because they're similar. From the picture of the four, that would mean selling the Morgan on the left and the Wilton on the right.

Which would y'all keep?

Since the Morgan is missing half it's pipe clamp jaws, I'd keep it for it's size and also the 3VS since it looks to have complete pipe jaws which can be extremely useful.

The Wilton has the most recognizable brand name which usually translates into the easiest and most profitable sale.

HotRod68Camaro, this is Garagejournal. You should keep all of them and buy another 4!

On the serious note, I would let the Wilton on the right go and consider parting with Morgan if you do not want to restore it.

I would keep the Wilton and the one marked 3VS. I would just use them as is.

On the other hand, unless you need the money or space, why not keep all of them? Lots of GJ members have more than 5 vises.

Keep the those that you like and/or need. But, if you're a tool hoarder like me you'll keep all of them.

Oh Shiftless! I thought I was doing pretty well, only acquiring 2 vises in the last year, and selling 2. But your graph makes my 34 vises look like I'm on the high end of this problem. I've got to start selling!

Does the Record 3VS say "made in England" or just "Sheffield, England"? If the latter, that is the version they finally sent that version to Asia for production.

I would keep the Columbiana and the Wilton. That is a good Morgan vise , but the condition is not great. I have one of the earlier Morgan 88 vises and like it. Now if I could only find pipe jaws for it.

I just stored my grandfather's Morgan Chicago 45. The jaws were decent but had some pitting and I decided to purchase new ones to complete the restoration. Morgan vises are still in business made by Milwaukee Tool and Equipment Company in Milwaukee, WI. The parts list they sent me still show that you can buy new replaceable pipe jaws.

The old style has one V per pipe jaw. The new style has 2 V per pipe jaw. Only the new style is available new.

I’d keep the columbian and the Morgan, sell the others. Those will be the most useful due to their size and strength.

I also vote for the Columbian and Morgan as keepers.
Those are two nice rugged pieces of equipment

....and not only that, but both will be easy to clean up and make presentable again

It's crazy to me how many vises some people have. Not too crazy because I started down that path myself.

I have one of each.
