which wall thermostat for propane fireplace?

I looked at many posts but did not find an appropriate answer. The FP came with a wireless thermostat that has 2* swing on both sides of the temp setting. I would like to put a wall wired thermostat in it's place but the ones I have looked at are 24V. The receiver to the gas valve is 6V(4 AA batteries.

I thought I could run a wire from the battery box to the thermostat then back to the gas valve.

So my main questions are would a 24V thermostat work off 6V's from receiver battery box? I do not want to put a transformer (120 to 24) incase the power goes out, living in the country.

Is there a 6V thermostat I can use?

How many feet is the wire for stat from fireplace? Millivolt/ powerpile thermostat. It will be a very basic stat.
25' - 20gauge
40' - 18

What exactly does that 24V do? Is it just an ON/OFF switch? If so I don't see a problem. My furnace gas valve has a self generating pilot millivolt system and the themostat (ON/OFF) just completes the circuit at the valve. Been working this way for more than sixty years.

Do you have a thermostat or just an on off switch?

It is a thermostically operated on/off switch.

The valve in the fireplace is likely thermopile-operated. You need a compatible wall thermostat. I also have one of those wireless units with the +/- 2 deg dead zone. You need a millivolt wired thermostat, so search for that. Here's one such unit.

Thermopile/ powerpile puts out 1/4 to 3/4 vdc, 250 to 750 mv. Need to know how many feet of wire your using to pick the guage.

20 gauge 2 wire use crimp on connectors if stranded wire for a good connection. Wiring at gas valve TP/TH and TH doesn't matter which wire goes to which terminal from stat.

The propane ceiling heater I installed in my shop also has a thermopile valve, and the t-stat I linked above is the one I used for it. I've got at least 20 ft of wire, and it has been working fine for years.
