Which way does a Wilton base go when mounting.

I didn't even realize the was a wider part to the base until I went to mount. Everything kept changing WTF.

Then I just happen to check center's of the base, and sure enough, there is a 6'' set, and a 7'' set. I'm just glad I didn't drill any hole's.

So which is the front. The wide 7'', or the narrow 6''. Thanks.

I put the wider pair to the front. Enables you to mount the vise a little closer to the edge of the bench than the narrower pair.

I was thinking wider to the front because of more weight off of the front.

So wider to the front it is.

It may not be on the smaller vise's. Mine is a C1 4.5''.

I really though I was losin it. I'd mark a hole. Then double check an that S.O.B. was off. Oh well. Live and learn.

It doesn't really matter how the base is as long as the fixed jaw clears the front of the bench.

Wide side goes to the front. One of the bullets at my old shop was cast front on that side.
