i would give carlyle (NAPA) a look i bought the metric and standard sets and i like them better than my wrights but that opinion....SK are great tools for the price

For under 300 Id say Sk, Proto, armstrong or wright would be really good choices

Any of the industrial brands will serve you well at that price (Williams, Proto, Wright, Armstrong) as well as SK. I have only used the Gearwrench wrenches a few times and will say that the other brands listed are going to be a better quality tool. Other's mileage may very. If this is your only wrench set I would stick to ones without the added gripper/anti-slip. They do work but can leave marks on fasteners. Sometimes when you least want them too.

Not all of us are pros. I'd love to have a whole set of fractional and metric Snap On, but can't justify the cost. I've got SK and GW, (as well as Craftsman and Bonney), and all have done the job. Between the two, SK gets the nod because they're made here. YMMV
