Holy ****, Batman! I coated my dark shingled shop over the weekend, and got an honest 40 degree drop in temps inside! Put it on right over the shingles, some guys said OK, some said not to. It's as cool in there as my carport is in the shade. No more 130 degree sweatbox, and I can store my paints in there now.
I bought the good 12 year stuff, we'll see how long it lasts.

That was the only product that was able to solve the sealing problems on the roof of my parents flat-roofed stucco house, with a built up tar roof.

1950....i made a huge mistake on a rental property for years it is a flat top with roll roof and i was coating it with liquid tar and it did great my bright idea was to coat it with cool seal white and i did 10 gallons over the entire roof worked great for like 2 yrs then the oils in the tar started to gas and breathe and i had sheets peeling of in huge sections what a freaking night mare ..leaks ect. i tarped it and now town is fining me for faulty roof on rental property...but on a good note for you if its over just shingles we did that on the propertys in the bahamas to help hold the shingles down from hurricanes ect and it works great just needs a recoat every 2 years or so . hope this helps ya.

Works good over shingles? Works bad over liquid tar (asphalt)?. Ummm, currently I am building a carport and the wood roof framing will start next month. I was thinking of using rolls of roof paper with little tar underneath & nail it. Then I plan to coat the entire roof with white elasto roof seal. Will that work, I wonder? Will the seal stick well to black roof paper? Please let me know. Thanks.

Been holding up on my metal roofs, not as white as was new. just did the garage, did the workshop last year (aluminum roof), and the foundry shop(steel roof) 2 years ago. Used a sprayer to apply it after the 1st building, spraytech model???? second most expensive Lowe's had with a 3/4hp motor.

I had a roof put over our deck, it's almost flat, so the contractor used a roll material and a big torch to seal it together. I thought about using the sun reflector sold at Lowes and the contractor just warned me to be sure I get one for roll roofs, said the other won't work for some reason.
I haven't done it yet becasue I've looked at the Lowes product and I'm not sure.
The reason I want a reflector on it is it ties into the house roof and I'm sure the soffit is just sucking the heat from the flat black roof up and into the attic.

If anybody knows which one is correct please let me know....I think it's the silver paint on type????

i used Lanco urathanizer, its good stuff.
I had to order it at Home Depot.
It lowered my roof temps dramatically.
2 coats and i sprayed it on with a rented airless,i had to buy a big tip for the sprayer.

Why not use mineral surfaced rolled roofing? It is available in white and will last longer than smooth roofing. I believe you'll find it called #90 mineral surfaced roll roofing. When it begins to fail (probably 5-10 years) then coat it.

I don't know about that, I'm learning as I go as well. I had different guys say yay and nay about coating shingles. Other option was clean out the shop and install nasty, itchy fibreglass - no thanks!

Sounds like you might have a modified bitumen roof. I had one put on our factory about 8 years ago, and I really like it so far. Ours looks like a white roll roofing with granular surface.
