White or off-white

For painting a garage, why not use the brightest, blindingest white possible? That's what I think, but at the paint store they said nothing should be white, you should always use an off-white. If so, then is there a standard industrial off-white to use? Apparently there are more off-white colors than you can shake a stick at.

I have a slight grey tint to mine, just helps hide the dirt a bit and use semi-gloss so it wipes up easily and is a bit brighter.

Plain, bright white is kind of boring looking. I left the ceilings white, but painted the walls two shades of light gray.

While not a garage, I once painted a "frost white" or "arctic white" or something in my living room. It was funny to see a 5 gallon bucket get about a single, full size "drop" of tint, lol.

After painting, I hated it. While I wanted to give it a "modern" appeal, it looked VERY plain, and frankly felt like I was in a hospital or operating room or psych ward they show on tv? Kinda depressing? Kinda weird?

In the end, I recommend a bright white ceiling, slightly gray tinted walls, and a glossy floor coating to combine with a lot of lighting...

Plain white, especially flat, shows dust, dirt and spider webs quickly while a semi gloss, satin off white or light grey hides a lot. Plain white also looks like you primed the drywall but didn't have enough budget to finish the job.

“cloud white” (or OC-130 as the pro’s call it) in my garage. It has just a slight cream colour to it. It’s a nice natural looking white.

I have to pick some up today to finish off another wall that just got finished.

Every thing I read said dont go plain white, because it shows a lot of dirt/dust/grime. Also semi-gloss or gloss are easier to wipe down than flat or eggshell.

I went with a gray (with a bit of blue tint) in semi-gloss

I did antique white on everything. Just enough color to not be annoying. Easy touchups, cause everything's one color. I wanted a fancier color scheme, but old dim Cadillac eyes and ease of maintenance won.

I use eggshell luster Whisper White in my garage, work shop and rental houses.

Pure white is restless. It’s harsh to glance into so tinting takes the edge off.

I went plain white gloss paint walls and ceilings. I would not mind light grey walls but I painted it myself and I hate cutting. Really would love two tone with chair rail pinstripe color but not unless I hire pros at some point. I dont mind the white as I have a lot cabinets and stuff on the wall hiding it.
