White Paint Recommendations for OSB in Heated Shop

I was shocked to find out that flat or egg shell white paint is recommended for it's superior reflectivity regarding indoor lighting.

Is there anything else I should know when selecting paint for OSB side walls inside a heated shop?

I see there is 'Barn & Fence Paint,' obviously outdoor but it's cheap.

Aesthetics are of zero importance, it's strictly to brighten the place.

If you can find a cheap source of lacquer, use that for primer. [Get it tinted and forgo paint.] Paint by itself will show thru any print manufacturer marks.

Everything I have read about OSB including asking paint stores was it is absolutely a necessity to prime first. All recommend an oil based primer. And say that latex paint will bind to the oil based primer just fine. I am going semigloss for the better cleanability

Just bought 15 gallons of white with primer at Lowes on clearance. They are doing a paint reset and it was marked down from $119 For 5 gallons to $71, I am using it over combination of sheetrock and plywood.

I'd add two coats of Kilz oil based primer first. Some guys have luck with other primers. If you used the Kilz O-B primer, it does stink big time, just beware.

I used Kilz interior paint on my garage and the house garage, I used an exterior paint since it wasn't heated/cooled. The Glidden paint I used was fine for the house garage. The paint I used at the fire station for the bunkroom/hallway was from Walmart, and it was made by SW IIRC.

Prime first. I used paint from Menards. Semi gloss white Conger? I think is the brand. $20 a gallon cleans well and really brightened my shop

Use a good primer first (Kilz or Bullseye) and then a couple of coats of the cheapest latex paint you can find.

Someone else on the forum spayed his walls with a heavy knockdown drywall texture after the first coat of primer, then primed and painted. It looked great for a shop, IMO. Made the seams less noticeable, and gave the whole space a more finished look.

If I remember correctly my OSB had a smoother "paint this side"
My guy just sprayed 2 heavy coats of Menards cheapest white.
At 12 to 15 feet up, it looks fine.

I second the Zinsser. I did one coat of this and one coat latex. Very happy with finished product. Also consider using paintable caulk to fill gaps prior to painting. The gaps between sheets of OSB will be obvious if you don't.

I am priming and painting the inside of my 2-car which has open studs and OSB under the siding. I want better light reflection and an improved appearance while sorting out my electric needs. The paint is Valspar Signature in satin finish from Lowe's.

I recommend primer to cover and promote an even sheen on the top coat. Use paintable caulk for seams.

I used three coats of latex paint. The first soaked in, the second soaked in a little, and the third gave it a nice finish. I used cheap 5 gallon buckets of paint from the seconds store.
With an 18" roller it was fast and I didn't have to buy expensive primer and paint.

I did that at first and it looked good. . . . until I moved something. That's when I found out it had slowly yellowed over time. I bought white paint and top coated mine.

I have , but experiment. if you get too much compound mixed in it will not flatten out and look crappy.
it will also cause the primer to flatten(dull) more than by itself, so another coat of pure primer would be recommended IMO

Your first coat of primer will raise some of the wood. If you're looking for the best finish I'd prime it the first time then give it a quick once over with a drywall sander. Nothing hard, just enough to knock off the feathered edges. Then if you want to do a mix go for it. Then a a semi gloss. I did my previous shop like this minus the mud and it looked great, was easy to clean and almost eliminated shadowing.
