You can get white 2 wire 18ga used for built in vacuum systems around here. Red is the common colour for heating control in more recent years up at my suppliers

In my twenty years brown is the standard jacket color. White is also available and is usually plenum rated, which costs slightly more.

Can't be. ALL red jacketed low voltage wire is to be used for fire systems only...

I bought a roll of 18 ga speaker wire, 2 conductor. Twice the length for the same price.

Right now the brown sheathed stuff is the most popular ei available/economical. If you need a specific colour you can always paint it.
