I just added a 40' storage area to the back of my garage. I used brown metal roofing and covered the fascia with brown. And wanted to put spouting on it, brown I guess and then I remember. The cost difference. 10' piece of brown gutter is like 34 bucks vs 6 bucks for white. Does it really cost that much more to make brown or just what is the scam on this. Would like to do brown but at over 5 times the price I'm thinking the neighbors in the back of the garage might be looking at white gutter.

If its a custom color or a special order, its obviously going to be more money. Probably doesn't help that the order is likely quite small. I'd price check elsewhere, likely alot cheaper if its something someone has in stock.

That's the problem. It's a stock color, gutters, downspouts, and accessories are all stock but that diff is wild.

Call a gutter company. Probably be less money and would be done in the time you would spend driving to the store and back. They won't care which color coil they load.

Where and what did you price ? A regular stocked item ? I bought our spouting from HD on a special order and could get it in 32' lengths I believe. It was also delivered by semi-truck all shrink wrapped together. Trying to figure out what I bought and what it cost about 12 years ago, I think it was about $4/ft.

I agree with "readhead" on this, I just called the local company that does seamless gutters and they came and made the gutters and installed them for less money than I could buy the gutters for. I think the seamless gutters are better and it turns out they are less expensive. It is kind of a no-brainer when you think about it.

I used an Allied Building Materials location nearby that rolled all the gutters from coil stock for $1.75/ft, any standard color coil they had was same price. I used a tan/clay/hickory color that matched my siding. I had $200 in all the materials including 4 downspouts, 12 elbows, pop rivets, 4 transition/conductor outlets, 2 inside corners, and 4 end caps, 2 tubes of sealant and the screw-in hangers. My one quote for show up and install, turnkey, was $795 so I felt the DIY experience paid off.

Bottom line is find the right people to roll, cut and drop a standard coil stock color and I believe it will be pretty cheap.

Just check Lowes and Home Depot (Canada) Brown and White, same price. Home Depot adds black, Lowes adds clay as standard colours, same price.

well for a change youre doing better on price up there than we are paying here in the states. I checked both Lowes and HD here and brown was high both places.

We sell brown for the same price as white but sell probably 20x more white then brown, one of our suppliers has dropped brown gutter all together.

Antique brown....I had to wait until the installed got the oil stock. Two 56' runs and two 21' runs with 8 end caps, elbows, straps, gutter brackets...... A total of 160' of gutters installed...$711.

On this pricing I checked HD about 30 miles away and found the brown to be priced right at the price of the white gutter. So I emailed Lowes Corp and asked if there is a pricing error or just what is going on with this and requested a call back so I'll find out the verdict in a day or so. I'll report back to you on what I found out

Every coil costs the same except copper clad. Up charging for brown is a marketing ploy but there is nothing you can do about that.

If HD lists gutter as a stock item there is a 95% chance they also have a spray can of matching "repair" paint in that color.
By white, paint, install.

The original question about the price difference might be because the gutters being compared are different gauge sheet metal (for example - 0.019" vs 0.027").

When those gutter companies come to your house sometimes the coil they run through their machine is white on one side and brown on the other.

Similar thing happened to me on white D4 vinyl siding.

First time I bought it, it was their standard white siding, and the cheapest color by far.

Next time it was a "premium" color and twice the price.

My question is why buy 10' sections? Around here for the same cost or just slightly more you can have seamless gutters installed. Less joint mean much less leaks and it looks much better as well. And you don't have to get on a ladder either!

Around here, they sell 21' sections of gutter. Brown is the same price as white. You could pitch each end opposite directions and put a down spout on each end.
