just a good set of sockets. and possibly wrenches. the shop i work at does alot of restorations. expecially on jaguars and MG's they come in handy expecially on prewar MG's. its nothing i was looking into buying extremely soon. just something i had on my mind for the future.

Does Snap-On still make Whitworth wrenches? I tried to look them up to see the prices after I bought one at a pawnshop. I could only find sockets. Did I just miss them?

I think they still have a few pieces listed. Would be British Standard, S/O changed from Whitworth to B/S sometimes in the late 50s. They are the same tools (most have the same model numbers) just the size numbers changed. There is some history on the change from Whitworth to British Standard on the web.

The switch to "BS" shifts the sizes 1 thread diameter higher. They're just using the BS fine thread size instead of the coarse whitworth. For example a 3/8"BSF bolt and a 5/16"BSW bolt both have the same hex head size.

New SO BS wrenches are a lot more expensive than SAE and not worth the price IMO since they aren't even flank drive.

Personally if I needed BS wrenches I'd try www.ebay.co.uk and look for sellers willing to ship international.

Its one of my whitworth drawers, I have another one. Have been collecting whitworth for quite awhile, still have a long way to go.

My first job outside my Dads shop was at a MG/Jag and Triumph dealer (never a lack of work, lol) I had one small box that had nothing but the whitworth stuff in it. I sold it to a guy who worked on BL products for next to nothing back in the 70's. After that place I swore I'd never work on an english car again.lol Although I was Jonesing for a new TR-6 when I worked there.
