what do guys think, saw it on CL for 100 bucks top and bottom and its supposed to be full of tools, looks like a cheap box so im guessing it will prob have mostly china and taiwan made stuff,

but im hopeful because the seller is a lady and im hoping she is sitting on a gold mine and she has no idea what shes selling (tool wise not box)

it's prob just my imagination going crazy from stuff i've read here on GJ and the finds some ppl here have made on CL

Strap locks on the drawers, I'm thinking that at $50 for the boxes alone would be a stretch. The castors look flimsy as well. It would have to have more than china quality tools in it to be worth buying. If it's close, it might be worth a peek, but I don't think it will sell at a hundred to anyone who knows tools unless it's packed with truck brands.

Never know till you look. There are folks on here that have truck brand boxes full of discount store brand tools. And there are others that have discount brand boxes full of truck brand tools. The probability is not in your favor, but you never know till you check it out. :dunno:

I personally wouldn't own that box, but i'm 44 and I did have some small(er) cheap boxes when I was young;)
if your out of high school and have a job hold out for something better.
if your young and still in high school w/ a part time job and this is your first "big" box than it's probably not a bad deal depending on what's in it.
it's CL. did the seller say OBO? if so see what tools are in it(quantity/quality). if its a ton of decent stuff give the lady the 100 clams. if its junky or few tools ask if shell take 75.
If I remember correctly that box was over 100 brand new.
of course this is all if the seller is close, in yer town and less than a 1/2 hour drive away.

just a quick side story. maybe 25 years ago I was amassing a good selection of tools, but all I had was a large carry box. I happened into a thrift store(yeah I still do that a lot) and found an old stack top/bottom box. I believe it was $100. but I only had 80 or 85 bucks on me.
I asked the lady if shed sell me the box for 80 and she could keep the tools. maybe she liked my offer or thought I was young(poor). she said that was fine and I could keep the tools.
the box is long gone, but I did use some of those tool, and some I still have.but that's a story for another day:thumbup:

thanks for the input, i could tell the box is **** but was wondering about the brand.

if the ad didn't state that it was full of tools i would have bothered i have a decent craftsman top and bottom which i consider fancy enough for a weekend wrench turner and DIY'er like my self.

i'm just on the look out for a nice score, the kind i read about here on GJ, to add to my own tool collection

Those scores are the result of luck, timing, and hard work.
The hard work is in the research for interesting sales (like the listing you posted) and the legwork to go out and explore yard/garage sales, flea markets, and thrift/pawn shops. The timing is about getting to it before someone else, and catching the seller at the right time to accept the price you're willing to pay (There are haggling tricks that can be learned, but not necessarily taught. It's a skill). And the luck is finding the items for sale in your area in the first place. It's the Wild Hunt.

What you don't see listed in these forums are all the bad sales explored, no sales, and bad purchases that it takes to finally score a good hit. We're generally too embarrassed, chagrinned, or angry to expose those to the people we're bragging to.

Take into consideration how many members are on this forum, and how few of them post their weekly finds. They are the dedicated.

The listing you posted is a good start on your search, whether you buy it or not. I may view 20 or 30 listings like that (if I can find them) before I actually leave the house to look at one, only to discover it wasn't worth the effort (or gas), and while I may have scored a few good deals I'm certainly not in the same class as many of the others who post their finds.

Enjoy the hunt, savor the kill. But don't let it get you down in the meantime.
