Who else has an obsession with their tool collection?

The best fix you can get is needing a very specific tool for a tough job, having it, and accomplishing the task elegantly... mmmmm

...well, I'm off to go buy a gear puller

I also like when you need a special tool and somehow you do the job without by using and adapting other things you have. Did a (gear-driven) waterpump on a VW T5 van today without the special gear puller or pump puller. A prybar and a ball-joint separator did the trick!

The only true double I have is 2 regular length orange Snap On ratcheting screwdrivers. I have one in the KRL and one in my cart. I do, however have 2 sets of tools. The ones in the cart are for everyday use. They all get used quite a bit but are all still in pretty much mint condition as I'm VERY careful with my tools. Some are Snap On and some are european but they're all pretty much higher quality tools. The ones in the KRL are generally newer Snap On tools and a set of the older style Snap On orange handled screwdrivers that I'm trying to complete (ratcheting and regular). These tools are used as well but not as much as the ones in the cart. I do have to admit I am a little OCD with my tools. They are all cleaned and put back in the box they came from in the place they came from at the end of every project or at the end of the day. It's my way of keeping a mental inventory of what's in there. If there's a hole where there's supposed to be a tool, that reminds me to find that tool and put it back. I also have a thing for matching colored sets. I have a thing for orange so if given the choice, I buy an orange one.
I suppose one could say I have a 3rd set. That set is composed of the lower quality stuff that I used for most of my life before i got to a position where I could afford nicer gear. They reside on or around the workbench, in drawers, bags and in the vehicles. These are also the ones that neighbors get to borrow when they need a tool.

I find myself having a long term wants list, mostly really expensive stuff I can live without, but still want, ie $3,000 worth of SO pullers, US made giant wrenches, anything else in the $500 plus range. Yet I see a used SO ratchet, it's a good chance I have a home for it. Stange how my tools changed from a lean, but everything you need to two bloated complete sets.

Same here. Countless lists of German tools that are just waiting to be bought..

I have to admit that I too, am a toolaholic.
BUT, the tools I buy are used, either at garage sales, flea markets or CL. They are usually dirty, rusty and may have PO marks or initials but they can be cleaned up and the marks don’t take away from the way they perform.
Beside the occasional new tool in with a ‘lot’ that I pick up, the last new tools I bought were Gearwrenches a couple years ago. I can’t remember the last time I was in Sears and looked at tools and I’ve never been on a tool truck.
I have more wrenches, ratchets, sockets, etc, etc, etc than I will ever use in my lifetime and I am always looking for more. I guess I could say I'm probably close to being certifiable.

hmmmmm
an obsession :dunno:

but i do have an observation, at least in my case ive been working on heavy eq for 25+ years, was a machinist 7 years before that.
most of the time i worked in shops that didnt permit working on personal vehicles at any time.
most of my tools i depended on to be at work, but i usually had a few things scattered around the apt/duplex that i lived in, and a few tools for emergencies in the truck and van.
after i bought my 1st house, and had a garage i could call my own, a few more tools & boxes were added.
fast fwd a efw years, i've moved 1200 miles, work in a different shop, and i'm crew chief for an short course off road truck. another (more portable) toolbox, tools in the race shop, truck owners garage, and my truck, plus a few things around the apt.
i buy another house, with a garage, and i'm now a field service tech @ the dealership i work for.
tools at the shop, in the truck, and garage, a few more woodworking type tools migrate home.
i decided to build another wheeling truck, more tools and equipment crammed into the garage, tools and eq. get moved to a rented shop space for a year or so, we get tired of paying rent, and everything gets moved back home, and reorganized.
having all my "home" tools together for once in over 10 years, i realize ive got way more than i need.
but every tool i have has been used, some more than others.
maybe one of my stepkids will take over my tool "collection" when i'm gone.

I feel the same way. I can't stand having something that is useless, no point to it, a waste of space and clutter. I don't even like doubles. Guys that have 4+ standard 3/8" ratchetsfor example make me scratch my head.

Good...........that means there are more for us that ARE truly addicted.

My favorite color is CHROME!!!!
& I don't mind if it's an older tool with a little wear & tear as long as they're functional.
I also like older guns aka bangsticks, one of my favorites to shoot is an old mosin M91-30 thats from 1934. Today I went to the Gunstore and was admiring all of the old school sporterized springfields, one was wearing an old 3/4" tube zeiss scope with a price tag of about $500.00 it was a way better buy than brand new soul-less plastic stocked remingtons & savages that were equally priced.I like the classics what more can I say!
