I am looking for a borescope I have limited uses but think it would be handy to have. I have been looking at the Provision Elite and Provision convertable. Any feedback on these or other brands?

http://www.provision100.com/

What about issues like shaft length, complaint vs flexible or anything elase I should consider? The intended application is automotive with perhaps an occassional look into the walls.

Thank you,

~Steve

I'm old so, I don't like to hold stuff up to my eye. I prefer the videoscopes. The videostick is gaining popularity as is the Snap on version. Things to consider is how small of hole can I penetrate with it, how secure are the mirror attachments, can I upload images to a computer for email, warranty, durability etc. Rigid also make one but, the probe is large and won't fit alot of automotive applications. They can be a real time saver.

snap on lists thiers as having .75" shaft and the videostick has a 10mm shaft. that can make a lot of difference in certain places. engine cylinders for example!

Yeah, I think that spec maybe a typo. Our rep demoed it by sticking down a fuel injector hole on a GM 3.8 I think that's smaller than .75 inch:beer:

I have the Povision 636 model, and I find it hard to get the sharp focus when using it,and turning the focus knob.(My close-up eye sight is going). So does the video models show on a screen what you would see in the eyepiece, and does it look focused right? It sounds like it would be a better design, unless let say you were in a crawlspace, and space was real limited.I wish mine had the obedient wand. That would come in handy in some applications.I see that Provision has up to a 96 in.long wand.It would be nice if you could interchange between the wands. If my SO guy ever comes by,I'll have to ask for a demo.

I expect these to continue getting better, smaller, and cheaper. Around $100 its going to be hard to resist, but I'm not sure if I would ever "need" one.

I have a provision borescope and the biggest thing with mine is that i have to take off my glasses to use it and then i can see so well, They make an adapter that you can put a camera on the end of it and make movies

Thanks for the feedback. After considering the replies and rethinking my choice I believe a call to my local SO dealer is in order. The SO unit is more than I had budgeted but considering the comments the eyepiece on the Eagle will just not cut it. I think the SO screen is more appropriate for my middle aged eyes.

Thanks for redirecting my thinking,

~Steve

Bought a BK5500 from Snap-On...seems to be a real nice toy...but I paid 360 Euro + 19% VAT!
=428.40 Euro=~560$
In the box is a mirror adapter...without a mirror...must call Snap-On for it. What I miss, is a pic capture function...I can do it by connect my scope to a computer...

i have the pro vision 2 in 1. I love it. 1/4" shaft so it goes down the barrel of .30 cal and larger. Side-looking mirror, sees around corners. I've probed gun barrels, inside walls looking for wire, inside boilers looking for cracks, up the oil drain plug, down the spark plug hole, examined cylinder walls on trucks & chainsaws, etc...

I used to have an older Provision, the 636 I think. I recently upgraded to this one. Reasons: lights stays on without holding button, obedient shaft option (don't use it much), attachments thread on rather than clip on.

I bought it with a 20% coupon ($180) and sold my old one for $165. It was def. worth the $15 upgrade and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
