Who has a rolling ladder? (Warehouse type)

Looking for recommendations for a rolling ladder.

I've got some 10' & 12' high Fastrack wire deck shelving (basically narrower pallet racking) in my shop (16' walls). I use my Little Giant-type aluminum ladder to get to the top shelves, but it doesn't work all that well. I like to store empty totes and other large light stuff up top out of the way and am thinking a rolling ladder would be a better bet.

Saw this online (Global Industrial Rolling Ladder), but don't like the review about being unstable. Hoping to get something a little more secure.

Decent ones are not cheap.. You either pay the big bucks and buy it new, or you spend hours and keep eye on industrial auctions in your area.

I would do the second, I have time and enjoy the auction searching... depends what your time is worth.

Global very often has excellent pricing, this seems very reasonable offhand, but don't know $ for shipping., but it's only 6' high at top step.. is that enough for you?

Lastly.. looking at the Ballymore website, it would be very surprising to me for them to make an unsafe unit... lots of potential liability in this product type and far as I know they need to comply w Federal standards.

At your link I see no bad review., and for that matter everything no matter how good will have some grumpy sour apple bitching anyway.

I have one in my garage at home right now. It's on loan from my work. I hate working while I'm standing more than 3 feet up on a ladder. I've never been comfortable with it.

I was able to rewire my tube light fixtures into the direct wire LED type bulbs. My ceiling is 12 foot, the ladder is 6 foot (height of the platform). I'm 5'11", so I was using this one near the highest i could. If I was going to tackle a insulation/drywall/wiring in the ceiling, I'd have one of these..or maybe 2 so I can get a helper on an adjacent unit. Either that or scaffolding.

That one looks like the Home Depot ladders. Worked there part time and I’ve taken down things that weighed well over 100 pounds. In the end it’s a ladder and you have to get used to it. Chances are that reviewer was pulling something with the ladder sideways. Compare the width to your local hd to see if same dimensions.

I use one. Mine is only about 4' high, so for 10' high walls, it's ideal. If you have 12' high shelves, you might need to be able to walk up 6 feet or so. The lower you can live with, the less space it takes up.

I got mine the cheap way mentioned above. Surplus. I maybe paid $10 for it.

I bought one off craigslist for $200, 22'. I removed the frame and wheels to get to my garage loft. I added struts so it folds up on its own when not using. If I knew how to post a video I would show you (still on photobucket). I posted it up a few years ago, but everything from photobucket does not work.

I purchased one from Global about one year ago to access a storage space above a 12' ceiling.

I have one like this also. Bought it at a yard sale for $75
Made hanging the lights a breeze. I can't climb ladders much, but this gets me to the top shelf.

I plan to purchase one when I get the mezzanines/lofts finished so I will only have one set of stairs. The safety angle ones allow you to come down forward which would make it easier to retrieve items.

Really not a bad price for the linked one, US made and all. Doubt one could build it for less if his time were worth anything.

I'd have no problem buying the $294 version. I can't afford to give up that much floor space though.

Found a few on CL (one for $150) up in the greater LA area, but they’re up in LA. Think I’d rather have a root canal than drive up to LA pullimg a trailer! :eyecrazy:

Global wants over $400 for shipping a 9 step. Uline has one for $750-ish (safety angle) with a couple hundred in shipping. Either Global or Uline will get me one for around a G.

You can probably build one if you are a good welder, but I doubt it would be less expensive than buying one. BUT, when you build it yourself you can make it exactly the way you want it.
