Up to 40% of rotational torque is consumed on a NC bolt due to friction losses. John Deere tech manuals have one called fastener guide most everyone armed with a screwdriver should read.
Whats a better test of all this is a bulldozer. Stuff on cars is minor compared to this and I have seen hundreds of connections come apart due to dry dirty threads usually tightened by hand, not always but never got tight enough to clamp. Put it back with clean bolt and a little light oil and its not a problem.
We had a question from local concrete co, wheels on trucks coming loose,,, turns out (led by some amateur machinist type) they were scared to oil studs because "they might come loose" Now,,, the obvious was they WERE loose but they cant get past that "they might". This proves the fault with the educational system to some extent about applying basic logic to most problem solving.
